``It's a pretty even competition. We know exactly where we are, I hate losing. We do it as hard as anybody who loses. There was a lot more positives to come out of it today. That's what we have to hang our hat on when we look to (Sydney) next week.
``It might not have been a super game, we have an obligation to play the game that's best going to suit us. Give us a couple of draft choices and we will play pretty footy for you.
``I just hope that everyone understands that we are in a different situation to ever other club that's been down the bottom.
``We might have to do a bit more of the hard yards and a bit more pain and give some more games to the young guys in our side. People like Adam Bentick, Eddie Betts, Andrew Walker. You have Brett Thornton at 21, Luke Livingston at 22 and Jarrad Waite who didn't have a good game today at 21. There's a lot of young boys in there who are going to stand up for Carlton in years to come.``I thought Walker was terrific, I have seen Andrew McLeod turn grand finals on their head and win premierships for Adelaide.
``I just thought he was sensational for a young boy, the youngest player in the competition as a 17-year-old last year. He has just turned 19, has a real future, people have been a bit critical of him.''

Translation: We're gunna keep playing the kids. Let's hope so. Great stuff.

Credit to Pagan, starting to realise the lack of talent in the second chance players is not going to take Carlton forward this year. I loved watching todays games, Betts lit us up in the first quarter, and Walker was superb. Bentick is starting to find his feet and has lifted the standard of our disposal.

Any mention of Lance in his press conference? Has to on his last chance, was slaughtered today.

noticeable how denis has made reference to the draft penalties for some weeks now!

last year he did VERY sparingly but always with an air of defiance.

this year the references have been made with an increasing element of submission and resignation.

the comp is full of those who have graduated from the sheedy school of coaching. up until now, pagan and matthews have stood firm as the connollys and the laidleys et al have whinged and moaned every half issue into a calamity of world proportions.

has denis finally waived the white flag and decided to join them? denis once decided to flick the switch to vaudeville and it back-fired on him badly (1995 prelim).

by continually re-visiting black friday, is his agenda to develop a "them against us" mentality within the squad?

that may end up being a crafty move, but i'm one of those who believes that our list problems are predominantly a result of the diabolical parkin/brittain years!!

Other translation: We are going for the priority pick and in the process we will cop honourable losses of 4 goals or less whilst we develop the youngest list in the competition.

Would many on the list actually listen and realise what he's saying?

I think the draft penalty's are now starting to hit hard on Pagan and the MC - @#$%&! AFL

Good to hear the kids are going to be perservered with - maybe add Russell, Bryan and Fisher (when he's match fit) and there's light.

According to ALLTHESTATS.COM, we are not indeed the youngest list, Geelong and WCE have a younger age ave however we are the least expeirenced , which I feel is a better excuse.

Exactly.

Those players he mentioned along with Fisher, Hartlett, Russel, Simpson, Blackwell, the O'hAilpins and Raso, will be part of the next great Carlton era.

Just need to add more quality.

he is sayin we are nuttin em out, accessin them, we have a cracked foundation at the moment we need to find the cement to repair it not rip the whole thing up. We need to play and try to create a demand for some of these youngsters so that we have a bargain chip. trade value prolly the sole reason that lance is still gettin a senior game.

The only thing we have going for us at the moment is kids and the word 'potential'.
Play the kids Denis and dont worry about the scoreboard too much.
