Unprofessional and embarrassing.

budzy, you said it, that's exactly what it is - unprofessional and embarassing.

I just can't understand how he could just let it fall away so badly when he has been considered an important part of the team by those that matter in the club and an eagerness to have him in the side.
He has been through so much shit in the last few years and you'd think he'd be desperate to be a part of it and working hard to be prepared. It is mind-boggling and very sad really

I think he has still not got over the fact he was not made captain.
Anyway I still trying to work out how the club played him after the break against Essendon* when he let himself go .... again.

Yeah it's baffling given all the professional improvements the club's been given by Dick.

Stevo should've been down the surfcoast at the fat farm instead of on the MCG vs Essendon* in what was a crucial game.

Obviously a few posters don't know how hard it is for some people to keep their weight under control

Just run few laps stay off the KFC she'll be right - How unprofessional can you be

So people regardless have trouble with weight an it is not a matter of what they eat or how hard they try

If for whatever reason he can't maintain the required physical condition for todays AFL, he's done.

Sure, some people struggle to keep weight off.

But Stevens is a professional athlete, not "some people". Absolutely staggering that he allowed himself to get wobbly in the middle of the season, and just as crazy that the match committee would pick him to play, having let himself go.

I'd cut him. Premierships are won by clubs with a great team ethic, and the willingness to sacrifice for each other. These attitudes should be absolutely non-negotiable.

Possibly the MC wanted to show him up on the big stage of Friday night to make him aware that his condition was unacceptable during that game - which it did.

Stevens can be as professional as he likes but if has a problem with his weight it may have nothing at all to do with his work ethic or his diet = Some people struggle with weight regardless of what they do be it that he is a professional athlete or not

Like I said it is very obvious the posters who don't have weight issues

Bollocks.

People that can't keep weight off have that problem because they don't exercise enough, eat crap, drink high calorie beverages or all of the above.

Professional athletes who do the professional thing don't get fat through thinking about it

I'm tubby because i don't exercise enough, eat my fair share of takeaway and drink a fair amount of pi$$.

I don't know why you're trying to stick up for his unprofessional ways SB.

TUB I will give you my day

5.25 am out of bed
5.30 at the Gym
5.30 - 6.00 row machine
6.00- 7.00 either boxing - body burn - cardio or weights or 5km swim

I bench 130kg can squat 180kg

I eat nothing but rabbit food all day go for a walk at lunch time - constantly take the stairs at least 40 times a day

I go home - walk the dog for 5 km then come back then either run 5 km or cycle 15km

I do this every day of the week 7 days a week - every single muscle and joint in my body aches

I very rarely drink beer ( I mean 2 stubbies a month)- I don't drink soft drink or milk shakes or fruit juice - Water and black coffee at best- I haven't eaten take away in about 3 years very rarely eat pasta - don't eat chocolate or lollies or chips - stay well away from carbs and basically don't eat junk

I am 178cm tall and weigh 102 kg have been exercising like this for the past 4 years - my starting weight was 108kg

I have been to 5 dieticians had several personal trainers write me exercise programs

and I am still afraid to take my shirt off in public - because I am still a fat prick

So like I said those that don't have issues with their weight have no idea what they are talking about

Not disputing that some people have difficulty losing weight, but Stevo isn't someone who has been a lard all his life.

He has chosen to let himself go from a professional perspective.

I don't recall him being overweight when he came to Carlton.

His weight at the moment is not acceptable and I would be comfortable that the club also know that his weight is not as it should be hence the relegation back to the Ants.

2 points:

Stevens has shown that he's able to trim down when he needs/wants it badly enough, so it's purely a question of application this time around, and not an inability to do it. Hence, not good enough.

SB, I can understand your frustration. Bloody hell - that's a huge amount of effort for not a lot of return (weightloss-wise). I guess this isn't the thread for it, but running's my area, and I know a lot of people who've been able to use running as their sole exercise to successfully lose plenty of weight (110kg down to 80kg, numbers like that).

I'm no personal trainer (although given that it only takes 5 weeks study to become one, I don't really hold them in high regard anyway) but my feeling is that you could probably actually cut down the amount of exercise you do, but focus it in a single session that's completely aerobic, and achieve better weight-loss results.

But not knowing you, my advice is probably worth jack. But there's halfway decent fitness thread in stuff that might be worth sticking your head into from time to time. I can also send you some links to running forums with heaps of stories from people who are managing to use running to help them get the kg's off, if you want.

cheers

I dont think he was dropped so much for his weight - It was more his lost ability to read the play and his refusal to do the team thing- The skin folds thing is a pile crap if you ask me- Stuart Dew skin folds would have been far worse than Stevos and he was arguably the best play in the Grand Final

The Rich from Brissy has the same type of build - he will stuggle in a few years along with Hawkins - Their bodies are ahead of their age

* It is really disappointing indeed that he has let himself go like this.

* Imagine the amount of money the club is paying him to keep fit and be a leader on/off the field.

* Also imagine if he was made captain, it would be a Whitnall saga all over again

The Carlton Football club is going one way and Stevens has obviously decided to go another. If he doesn't dramatically improve his fitness by seasons end it may be time for the club to make a statement and cut our losses with Stevo.
