Post subject:  A window into the future

Tuned in to vfl game today and thought there were some good signs for the future
Fisher after being out with a knee reconstruction was brave and went for and took a few contested marks today- one which was unrewarded by the umpire in the second quarter was a beauty - didnt seem to be concerned about moving into contested situations and hit the packs hard - a definite inclusion into our senior team as soon as possible and one that should play plenty of senior games for carlton- would have betts at his feet because even if he doesnt take them his opponent wont
Setanta played well - yes still learning but given conditions and the manner in which ball was coming down 5 goals was an excellent effort- curious that he wasnt on senior list this year -will certainly be next year- is also good with second efforts
A potential forward line of setanta fisher betts lappin waite fevola and whitnall has possibilities
Davies is enigmatic and yes his disposal was sometimes not great but clearly BOG today and needs to be given a turn in our senior team as part of a midfield rotation- may be he wont make it but is too good for the VFL
Blackwell russell and smith also look like they have promise and as suggested last week blackwell and russell need to get a chance at senior footy later in the year
Scotland whilst a bit slow to start also looked a class above and hopefully will be back to 2004 form

frank, i dont think russell is upto AFL footy yet.
Hed get smashed if he was promoted at the moment.
He just gets lost in traffic IMO... im not sure if its a confidence thing.
I was calling for his promotion last week and wanted him to play on Davey... he just seems to time himself all wrong when going to the ball.

Does anyone know how many touches he had??

Im not saying hes a dud.. just saying he isnt ready..
In fact apart from Davies i saw no walk up chances in the Bullants today...(maybe Longmuir).. but admittedly it was a shithouse day and its alot easy to watch it from my living room than play it at Cramer street.

I wouldnt have thought russell had more than 10 touches (if that) - but then I said davies had 37 touches in the other thread when it seems he had 27 (must not have been looking at the telly properly lol)

I hate to say it but i remember when we drafted vance or massie ahead of Tarrant.

THis is lookign similar. russel the sorta 188 cm fast player ahead of the leading power forward (egan). and gee egan moves well, he really does. i think collingwood got the gem of the draft. anyways.

Not sure that Russell is there yet either but like carrazzo and bentick last year at or near the end of the season should give both he and blackwell a taste
Fisher will need another say 3 games or so in vfl but hopefully by about round 15 he will be in the seniors
Agree davies should go back in next week but not play in starvation corner the forward pocket but in the middle and see whether he can cope
Longmuir plays too many cameos and not sure he has gained full fitness yet
Otherwise its more of the same from the likes of bowyer bannister chambers - still think scotland would be a chance to get back next week
My optimism about window for the future was more directed at next season rather than the present.

I thought Russell got better as the game went on. Disposal was a bit shakey earley (cost us a goal from full back kick in) but this improved as the game went on. I thought he used his body well on a couple of occasions and took a nice mark. Not ready for AFL imo.
Davies was good but if he is going to play in the seniors next week he really needs get the ball moving when he is in space. On a few occasions he was all by himself and basically stopped, went for the short kick and turned it over. Needs to get it moving quicker.
I thought T-LO had a great sesond half... better than Davies for mine.

Davies will be gone at the end of the year, he has had plenty of chances.
Chris Egan v Jordan Russell, the pies are 10 goals up at the moment but it is only 10 minutes into the first quarter.
