It is great in Bower's case but we'll never learn, what's Army got that means his contract can't be put off until around trading time?

What if we need to secure a trade, does this mean Army can't potentially be a factor? I really don't get this hoard mentality.

Kernahan was a great player and captain but he is as thick as two planks.

Paf the thing is I'm not sure too many teams would be interested in Armfield. He has his positives but has lots of deficiencies, it's not as though he's a Gilbee or Drummond in the waiting.

I'm pleased that both are signed up. Bower for sure and won't be any cause for debate. Armfield deserves an extension too, as long as it isn't on too much. The MC obviously sees something in him, and likes the attack he provides. I don't quite see the relevance as to getting a trade. If he wasn't signed up and he wanted to go, then we wouldn't get much for him. And its not like we won't have a few other spaces opening up on the list.

I know some won't be, but I'm pleased for Army.

He is not the most skilled on our list but he is one of the few you can rely on to constantly try and move the ball on quickly and take the game on a bit from the backline. That's why he keeps getting picked, he tries to do what the coaches want. Unlike one highly skilled senior mid who was watching from the sidelines today.

Well done to both.

Pleased about Bower, not so sure about Armfield. Any news on Thornton re-signing or Walker?

He might sound it - but he's far from stupid. Also - Stephen Icke does these deals with player management...not Stephen Kernahan. Greg Swann signs off on it. Not Stephen Kernahan.

I'm a big rap for Paul Bower...has become an integral part of that 'back 6' we are hoping will develop together. I'm not as big a rap for Dennis Armfield, but I'd be guessing Army would have come reasonably cheaply and he will continue to improve, of that there is no doubt. Good news all around!

Bower  great news
Armfield  OK 1 year would be fine, but why 2??? If he doesn't come on next year we're stuck with a list clogger.

Army is a borderline two-year signing; hope they pushed for an extension option in Bower's contract.

sigining a player up doesnt mean he cannot be traded.......

...makes a settlement or negotiation harder however.............

Army has shown enough to suggest he's worth persevering with. Clubs are going to be hanging on to developing players like Army rather than picking in the 5th and 6th rounds of this draft and drafts in the near future. Get rid of him and be prepared to pick more VFL and WAFL level players in his place.

Not until we get about 5 more players who are prepared to run with the ball in the backline.

Which is why I dearly hope we elevate Lachie Hill at the end of the season.

Bower is fair enough..he is a fine player in the making but resigning Armfield for two years is a vote for mediocrity....I like his attack on the footy but I would have given him only 12 months and told him to fix his disposal issues or face the axe.

Very happy with Bower, he is on his way to be being one of the better Running Backmen in the AFL

Army, well as someone already said he would have been cheap and I do quite enjoy his runs. I think that with time the skill level will rise and could very well become a very effective bottom of the 22 type player running out of the back in the next couple of seasons.

Happy for them both

See it as they are giving Army 2 years to work on his decision making and disposal, a fair enough timetable as these things are incremental and take time. He would have come dirt cheap and if they want to pay him out after next year it wont break the bank.

It does indicate the Footy dept has 8 -10 players in mind that they intend delisting before Army.
