Garlett ha played 7 games this year for 5 Wins and 2 losses saints 9 points bombers 4 points
hes been a lot more fortunate than our last 10 or so recruits let alone a rookie

His foward pressure cant be under estimated!
Watching a game with him there chasing looks like were always chance.

He's funny to watch out there.

My father calls him "the skeleton".

Garlett plays a role where stats can't be relied on to determine his worth to the team.

A brilliant rookie selection, IMO.

Mr 1% in terms of tackling, pressure and perceived pressure when he doesn't have the ball.

I have to say I don't see what so many others see. He doesn't have a high amount of tackles, goals, or score assists. These are the the key measures for a small forward. This is not to say he can't develop into a very good player but at this moment in time he has a lot or work to do.

He does have a way to go but as long as he keeps improving he has a place on our list. Sometimes you don't actually need to lay a tackle to put pressure on. What Jeffrey has done on many occassions due to his speed is make a player rush his disposal before he gets tackled. "They know he is coming".

And Champion Data don't measure that stat.

Funny I've heard him referred to as the Ethiopian

goal a game not to unlike Betts first season

Goal a game, 3 I50's a game, 3.3 tackles a game.

As his understanding of the structures improve, his assist numbers will rise. Then you add on the 10 or so times a game he is that half step away from tackling an opposition player clearing from HB. Some of those impact on their disposal. Eddie is really the only other bloke in our forward line that does this, although Fev does it with some regularity.

I have really enjoyed watching him this year. Wonder what we would be like with he and Yarran in forward and Betts in the middle

More importantly is his impact for the Navy Blues. His role allows Betts to work higher up the ground, and become a part of the center clearance set up.

It's no coincedence that we were able to create a few problems for Freo, when Betts became more involved.

I have no doubt that Garlett and Yarran will equally be important to the set up for the very reason I mentioned above.

Betts ability to read tap outs makes him a valuable member of the midfield rotation.

Go Blues!!

One reason stats will never tell the whole story.

Betts could be the next Syd Jackson.....a classic rover, resting in the fp. Get the engine right over the summer and unleash him in 2010 in his new role

i think he will become a very good player. I believe he is better than Betts at the same time in their careers.

I like that he is actually quite good overhead. The few times we have kicked to him he has taken it well.

Is it just me or does he have freakishly long arms?

Garlett's game, rangy frame and pace reminds me more of a young Andrew Lovett than Eddie Betts.

Lovett was a stick when he started at Essendon*.

Lovett played a game or two for our reserves before moving to WA. :donk:

Has the endurance and pace to play up the ground like Lovett and burn off slower mids to hurt them the other way.

The last goal he kicked in this highlight package is Lovett all over...

Takes them on, gut runs down the wing and finishes on the run after getting back inside 50.

I would love to see Garlett on a wing and Yarran on the HFF with Walker.

And then switch.

the only issue i think people has is because his body is so small he's going to get pushed off the ball pretty easily, and his foot skills are worthy of debate. . . When he fills out a little more he'll be a fine player though im sure.
