Essendon* today suspended Mark McVeigh for next weeks big game against the Pies for missing a training session. http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnews/mc ... 11405.html We have heard from A. Joseph that when he missed a training session he was given the choice to shave his hair or dye it blond - we sent the strongest message we could to the playing group - train or get sexy. Inside word at Carlton is that repeat offenders will be forced to get breast implants and wear low cut footy jumpers the following match - but suspensions will not occur. It makes me wonder why our FF keeps sporting very short hair cuts this year As much I hate to say it but.. RESPECT for the Pies re their suspension of Didak and Shaw last year for a lengthy period (approx 6 weeks) including finals (they seem better off for that decision this year). RESPECT for the Bombers for disciplining one of their senior key players and sending a message to the whole group. No RESPECT for the way the CFC repeatedly deals with player indescretions "in house" with very little consequence and said players forever on their "last chance". Fans seem to think No. 17 is a forgone conclusion and just around the corner b'coz we have Judd and 3 x no 1s, but No. 17 wont happen until we become a club that can make the tough calls for the greater good, as partying & hangovers are not ingredients in the recipe for success. |

I agree with your post, but didn't AJ "go blonde" because he arrived late for training rather than missing it altogether? Let's get the facts together before going OTT. |

We lack any sort of professionalism and this is our biggest problem. |

Theres no doubt we need to get tougher- Ive alluded to the culture problems with some of our senior players earlier in the year.. While we have a very competent board of directors, I think the general message from the top needs to be firmer. I know this might sound like a broken record, but today's footy is a very different game on and off the field from the past.. and we really need to make even bigger strides to get with the program.. |

if any of you blokes think our boys "went sexy" by bleaching their locks....you obviously didn't get a look at them. Absolute shockers, and they would have been embarrassed to show their faces around town. ![]() |

That may be right Mrs C but it doesn't hurt you in the hip pocket. McVeigh's two week suspension will hurt him where it hurts most. As opposed to bleaching your hair the cost of which is what? $50 to $100 tops? |

Why do the players and the staff even bother turning up if it is that bad! |

The Pies only suspended their players when they were totally humilliated by them and their high profile lies. Their first instinct was to keep playing them. No respect there. The Dons said that they were sacking Lovett only to reneg when they couldn't get what they wanted. No respect there. Even the Cats and Johnson which everyone thought was the best example of tough love looked the other way only 12 months later. This idea that big fines and suspensions is a key to a succesful culture and ultimate success is way over rated. |

The feeling you get at Essendon* though is that every player is equal to one another. It's doesn't matter whether it's Mark McVeigh or some dud, they're going to be treated equally no matter how good they are. I don't get that feeling at Carlton and don't think it sends a good message to the playing group. |

Like St Kilda or Geelong in the 80s, the delicate superstar gets away with stuff a worker bee would be sacked for. |

Essendon* suspended Lovett twice for missing training last year. I guess McVeigh took notice of Knights' big stick approach and didn't go out binge drinking the week before a game. Watson was injured on Friday, yet McVeigh still went out and got smashed when they needed him against Collingwood. I'm not saying we don't need to take a harder line with our players, but don't go using Essendon* and Collingwood as an example of a successfull player culture. ![]() Dale Thomas lives on media street. |

When exactly did everything go to shyte?? We have come full circle, wooden spoons, AGM's, new presidents, loss of draft picks etc etc. And here we are again - no structure, bad coaching, egos getting ahead of the team. Obviously we have learnt NOTHING from the last 7 years ![]() |

When a player feels like he needs to be at his best because he needs his club then you have a good culture and a group of men who show the required respect and devotion. As soon as you have a club that feels like it needs a player or group of players and the tables are turned on this type of perspective then you have the makings of a shit culture and a organisation that lacks the required total respect through the ranks. The latter is Carlton ATM |

Collingwood sent Tarrant across the country and gave Shaw and Didak the harshest club imposed suspensions I can recall that included a finals series. You can't argue that they haven't taken a stand and that the players don't know repurcussions await any off field troubles. They seem to be better behaved this year so far. Tarrant seems a more committed individual after having had his career genuinely put on the line. As mentioned in another post maybe McVeigh didn't learn from Lovett's suspensions, but they too have taken a stand, and Im sure their kids know what will happen if they follow in those 2 players footsteps. Lovett now too seems to be behaving and playing better. Surprise Surprise that Tarrant and Lovett along with Didak seem to be playing arguably their career best footy after being given massive kicks in the backside and learned for real not to take their weekly selection as a given due to their talent. They may have had problems with player behavior in recent and/or current seasons, but they sure are making a more serious attempt at eradicating the behavior than our club is ATM. If our FF would have received regular and consistent suspensions and/or demotions to the Ants over the past 5/6 seasons we would have a better FF today no doubt. A crew cut or blond hair as punishment for unprofessional conduct .... you have to ask why bother with any punishment at all if you are just going to turn it into a joke |

Does anyone actually know if any Carlton players have missed training this year when they weren't supposed to? Anyone? ![]() |

McVeigh was already under suspension for an undisciplined act. He then proceeded to go out on the turps and sleep through a recovery session. Didak and Shaw broke curfew, were involved in a motor vehicle accident where one of them fled the scene. They then proceeded to lie to their team mates, coach, president and the football public thus humiliating everyone concerned. Now let me get this straight, we're comparing these actions with a player who was late to training? Soon we'll have TC posters going through Rattens rubbish bins looking for incriminating evidence. Some of you people need to have a good, hard look at yourselves. You're working yourself into a frenzy. ![]() |
