Sorry but I have to bring this up this week. We got a major hammering from one our biggest rivals...rarely happens in this fashion and serious questions have to be asked.

Ratts just cannot seem to get the boys up on a consistent basis and this week we were not even competitive. I would hate to postpone any scrutiny on Ratts until we got hammered many more times (ala Pagan)...there will be coaches positions up for grabs at years end so there will be canditates out there..my only concern is who has the balls to make such a call?

I hope Swann has...cuz Ratts was appointed in a highly unprofessional manner and my concern is those that are left (after Dick) aren't capable of making the big calls.

they say "everyone makes mistakes...but only dumb people make the same mistake again"

what does that make brett ratten ? 'snip'

he has now coached against Essendon* 5 times and lost the same way every time....we huff and puff along the boundary, kicking to one on one contests in row 8...while we leave the corrdior open for them to attack the heart of our defence !

Let me pose a few questions:

1. why do we refuse to use the corridor at all costs ?

2. why do we constantly take the longest route forward hugging the boundary line and hence limiting the direction of our attacking thrust?

3. why do we still have no kick out strategy ?

4. why do we not flood back and fill out space in our defensive 50's like other teams do to us ? (In the first half both monfries and lucas found space despite us having 15 players back - unacceptable !)

5. why do we always end up having set shots for goal from row 8 of the grandstand (houla, fev, judd, etc etc) ?

6. why did rats not make the statement that had to be made in the 3rd quarter by not dragging fev (and I am a fev fan and have somew sympathy from him ....but consistency in his efforts are required - his chase in the 1st or second on reimers was brilliant but cannot be a once off !) ???

7. Given our current list, are we fuliflling our potential ?

7. do you honestly think that brett ratten has what it takes to coach Carlton to a premiership ?

I just hope that the people who count at out club are trying to work out the answers to these questions....and when they do, are not afraid to act accordingly !

I'll ask again....if brett can't work out the answers himself, for the sake of the club rats undoubtedly loves, please fall on your own sword and allow this group to reach their potential ....whatever that is !

We should be doing everything within our power to get Nathan Buckley as coach.
Surely Swanny isnt sitting around doing nothing...we need to get the best coach. Ratten is a park coach

Pratty always said, you don't get the best available, you get the best.

There was one coach commentating tonight who is the best.

Get Matthews. 6 time premiership player, 4 time premiership coach.

Does anybody know how much of Ratten's contract we'd need to pay out if we sacked him? I mean in years... not $$$

Well should not be of concern. Who is the question that needs to be asked. Not how.

See Ratten got the balance wrong tonight. played to many quick players and not enough of the slow types. He should have played Cloke, Warnock, Jacobs and Bentick :screwy:

Honestly this club has made two decisions that are setting us back

1. Appointing Brett Ratten as senior coach

2. Not offering Allan Richardson a position as an assistant

Ratten has n flowering idea and is far to reactive. He is a hack and will be remembered as the hack coach not club champion

How do you know they didn't offer Richardson a position Melvey?

This week is the big test for Ratts imho.

How does he react?

Will he have the balls to drop Stevens to the Bullants?

Fev probably deserves a run there too after his player ran down the wing a few times and he stood 40 out with his hands on his hips watching him set up goals and sulking cause it was kicked to him lace out.

We will not grow as a team until every player in it contributes and does the 1% ers, chases, tackles.

As long as we have senior players setting such a shit example and continuing to be automatic selections (cause when they can be bothered or they aren;t manned up they can be damaging) we will not develop into a genuine threat. Culture!!!!!!

Stick Hartlett or Edwards in the goal square and see how they go without Fev as the distraction for the midfield.

SEND A @#$%&! MESSAGE - WE WONT ACCEPT THAT SHIT FROM ANY PLAYER

I will wait and see how he goes against the Pies and the Dogs. We have owned them for a while the same as Essendon* own us. Sometimes teams just matchup well. The Bombers style of play brings out the worse in our style of play.

I couldnt think of a plan to beat the Dons tonight. Not a plan that would of worked with the way we were handling the ball.
We could have come out with the Cats game plan but with our players playing with no heart and no ball handling skills we would still have got flogged.

I do blame Ratts for not getting them fired up tonight but tactics wise we will never know what could have happened had our blokes actually meant business.

Yep, fair enough that he is under the microscope now. I admire his honesty in admitting his mistakes while learning, but should not have had a contract extension beyond the end of this season at this stage IMO.

I have been a long term Ratten advocate but the arguement above is very compelling.

We can all argue it is a young team and this sort of stuff happens but for flowers sake after all this time there is zero improvement on the same basic errors.

How could Ratts be sucked in severasl times to play ther same game plan that does not work against these flowers?

Why can`t he get the team up for huge matches like this?

Why do we still use this stop, chip around the flower boundryline, kick to 1 vs 2 opposition contest bullshit?

Do not get me started on kick ins ... grrrrrr

Or Fev spitting the dummy .... double grrrrrr

We can all handle losses but in the end he has had enough time to improve in essential area and I think the spotlight should fall on him.

In the end, up until now he has not got the team to meet its potential.

I still think give him to the end of the year ... but if we do not massively improve on the areas above (and a few others) .... whether we make the finals or not, I believe there wil be much better coaches out there at the end of the year .... ones with proven records of turning lists with potential into premeriership sides.

Exactly what we need.

Sorry Ratts but yesterday was beyond pathetic, worse than Adelaide (in both coaching, structure and performance) and sadly the straw that broke my back.

We all in our hearts love Ratts ... he loves the club etc etc ... but its all about premierships ... we have a window ... WE CANNOT MISS IT!

END OF STORY!

I agree with u ... the way we were handling the ball we were never going to win ... but again is that not the coaching staff`s fault?

The job of a coach is to get the most and best out of a team and individuals within the team.
His job is to minimise the weaknesses and play to the strengths.

Synbad in an ideal world who would you have as Senior coach and president of the club?

Personally i'd love Paul Roos coaching our club and Mike Fitzpatrick as president
