It is truely unbeliveable reading some of the stuff on here and listening to talkback this week. Talk about throwing the bath, the water and baby out of a ten story window. While I fully support freedom of speech and independent thought, my late lamented father used say "Think before putting mouth into gear" Sage advice.

Just think about things for the moment.

We are ahead of where we were last year
We have for the first time in seven years a sniff of the finals and a heady smell it is indeed.
We have several young exciting players and a player who is amongst the best three in the competition on any day.
The club is now financially secure.
We will have world standard facilities at Visy Park, hell we might, if the cards fall the right way get to play some games at the old Fortress.

And best of all for we old timers John has been banished.

But finally, sport is about winning and losing, learning how to lose without losing the plot is a key element of that. Winning is about taking all of your learning and skill and succeeding when others say you can't. Are we winners, by all the performance indicators, we are. As a club including supporters we have to satrt believing we are WINNERS and not the rabble we have been for far to long. Once we start doing that we will suceed.

Cheers

BM.

In terms of win/loss we are level with last year.

Apart from the odd extremist calling for immediate mass sackings which is unrealistic all I've seen is vigourous debate questioning Ratts' gamestyle and debate questioning Kernahans role all of which is healthy, IMO.

Play on!!

Fair enough BM, we are still tracking in the right direction, maybe not as quickly as we would like or as quickly as some of our competitors (read Bummers).

The emotion from last game is not hard to explain, consider:

1. We only lost to them by 4 pts in first round;
2. We had beaten Lions at Gabba 2 games before;
3. We ran undefeated Saints to 9 pts game before;
4. The lack of effort and passion of some or our "Senior" players; and
5. White flag stuff from many of the lads after 1/2 time in front of 83,000, national audience and against a bunch of wannabe flowers that we hate with a passion. Why the flower pick THAT game to serve up THAT tripe!!

We'll move on, but if we accept efforts like that it's pretty much "Oh, we're from Tigerland, a fighting fury...."

Fingers crossed the REAL Blues turn up @ Subi this week.

Your post is flawed.
Its that exact attitude that is the reason we are rooted unless some big calls are made now

For a start we need a decent President
Someone who has some clout and wont be everyones mate. Sticks had no option but to tell big Jack he was no longer wanted by the club. That should have been done 5 years ago when Elliott almost single handedly put this club out of existence.

Secondly our list has no depth. Our 12 or so top players are very good but it drops off heaps after that. On top of that for some strange reason guys like Bannister who should have been given the arse 4 years ago get favoured over Anderson whose form in the 2s warrants selection and from what I saw last year Ando has a future at the Blues. Obviously Carlton thinks so by giving him a contract till 2010.Yet he hasnt played a game this year. What a joke.

On field discipline. It pains me to say this but we havent learnt from StKilda (DelSanto, Milne)
Collingwood (Didak, Shaw)
Geelong (Steve Johnson)

Those 3 clubs took away game time from the seniors because of individualism on the field or shit behaviour off it.

Look who is reaping the benefits now
Both player and club

Fevola should be told to go away for a month and play for the Bullants.
He should be told if you dont play for the team then @#$%&! off
The MC havent had the guts to do it
There is a common thread in Brendan's behaviour.
3 weeks of team orientated footy.Bags of goals then

A pathetic selfish peformance last Friday night
And so the cycle of behaviour continues and the club have really done nothing about it except bury their collective heads in the sand and ignore. A personally was ashamed as a supporter from what I saw from Fevola Friday night.
It is wrong to have him playing this Sunday. Take away the right to play for Carlton because he doesnt deserve it.

Stevens should be told to retire . Its obvious the game is passing him by. Too slow. Another selfish footballer who for all his great skill and nouse doesnt cut it because he has had a negative effect on the playing group. Fancy an AFL footballer being overweight. Yet its not the first time. Fancy an AFL footballer taking the short steps to avoid full contact with a player about to mark inside 40 metres (Lloyd deep in the third last Friday night)
And guess what folks Ratten didnt even send the runner out to him let alone drag him for a weak effort
Then there is princess Houlihan who has played the most games of any Carlton player in a Carton jumper except Fevola.
Surely I dont need to say anymore there

Then there is the selection of Bentley Bannister
Gartlett being dropped against the quickest team in the AFL
O'hailpin being dropped

Then there is the game plan of Ratten.
We move the ball out of defense with the speed of a glacier on tranquilisers.
Players still kick it to often to Fevola
If it wasnt for Betts amazing skill we would have been beaten by 90 points on Friday night
We flood back too quickly allowing for space for players to run freely into about 60 metrs of goal
Most of out goals come from individual brilliance rather than structure.
We have too many player doing defensive jobs
Our experienced players Judd being the exception dont lead by example when the chips are down and this has being going on for years.
We will probably make the eight because its been such an unusual season with 2 teams dominating 10 wins will probably get you win. Murphy and Kreuzer have improved. Judd is better this year.A couple of individuals have got better. Thats it.

On top all this guys OKeefe, Tiller, Hill play for the Bullant seconds more often than not. That shit standard of footy doesnt help their progress. These guys should be the first picked for the Bullants 1sts because their development is crucial

Chilling NO
This club is still largely in the pooh and unless it makes tough calls will not progress to the Holy Grail
Period.

And yet for all of that we are 8th and the Bullants are what 3rd or 4th.? And a record membership number.

Truly a club in the pits. :donk:

Your just looking at it from the perspective of our ladder positions
I am looking at it from a broader perspective and from a perspective of what it takes to win a flag.
IMO we are way off it(Not just 7 more rungs up the ladder)

Thats like saying Stevens had 21 possesions on Friday night so he should play Sunday
or Fevola is second on the goalkicking tally and just had one of those night therefore he should play Sunday

Good stuff BM. I just took a couple and have a few more lined up for this weekend.

It's like the supporters of our great club are determined to drag us through the mud and make us the laughing stock of the rest of the comp. It's embarrassing at times.

Interesting times indeed.

Now, let's see what response there is tonight at the selection table and then on the weekend.

A part of me says that we are moving in the right direction:
Current top 5 teams:
StKilda: we pushed and definitely not out of our depth
Geelong: have not played
Bulldogs: we smashed
Collingwood: we smashed
Brisbane: Beat them twice.

A part of me says we are not:
Fev will always be a time bomb
Too much reliance on Judd
Too much of a gap between the good performances and poor performances of about 10 players in our team. Inconsistency.
We still have not beaten one of the teams that has given us trouble in the past.
Some players have improved, some have stalled and some have gone backwards.

Good to see you're contributing positively.

Although, I guess as a bull dust specialist, you'd be able to spot it.
