For quite a while Jordan has been a sticking point in the middle east. A country that splits opinions, beholden to the West yet ingratiated with the East or at least the Islam east. Jordan Russell is a similar character. After being taken Pick 9 in the 2004 draft the hopes of many Carlton supporters lay on his chest. Walker had already given a sign that he would be a superstar against the Eagles in his first game in 2004 That was a stamp of authority saying our first pick after the penalties was a good one. Our second pick after Walker was Russell in 2004. Pick 9, you do not expect greatness, but you do expect something. ..... But those who have lamented Jordan not being dropped over the last two years should really look at his output over four quarters. Not brilliant not terrible, week after week Jordan has avoided the ‘relegation zone’ of the last four players. In that repect I have no problem with Jordan being kept in the side for 31 games in a row. In those 31 games he only finished in the last four 3 times, two of those times it was on the edge, 19th, the only time he finished deep in the relegation zone was round 9, 2009 when he finished 21st. After finishing 17th in round 10 nhe was then dropped, based on that evidence I do not think anti-Russell people have too much to whinge about. It might not be brilliant but his record was consistant over a season and a half. He has certainly improved in 2009, but one form slump has meant being dropped from the team. That is the way it should be. I might not think he will make it long term, but at the moment, if he does get back in the senior team and improve again, he will be in for a lot longer than another 31 games. If he is, and he contributes positively to the team week in week out I will be a very happy Carlton supporter. For more of this crap: http://www.navyblueblog.com/archives/158 Very basic summary - I don't think Jordan is up to it at senior level, but at the same time, he has been good enough to justify a 31 game unbroken streak. He was dropped plenty early in his career. He has only been dropped again once he has dropped into the relegation zone. So some good fence sitting. ![]() |

Jordan Russell Yep the club got it wrong although it also got Hartlett as well. ![]() Any recruiting officer will tell you that the one essential thing a player has to have is a feel for the game a footy brain Any Jordan doesnt. And thats why he isnt good enough. Whilst Anderson languishes in the maggoos we have played Jordan Some things simply make no sense your worship |

See........... people think i have a personal vendetta against JR but it don't. I just don't rate his game at all. So often i get told "Just watch what he does behind the scenes"........... So i do. I pay special attention to him whenever i watch the games live and really, most of the time, he just runs around on his own. Then i get reminded that he "Shuts down important players regularly" yet nobody can tell me, despite me asking numerous times, who he played on in the Freo game? He cannot handball and is a shocking kick and the players that he man's up on are usually fringe players anyway that are anything but dangerous. Not to mention the fact that he consistantly goes to ground allowing his man to run off with the ball. Aaron Joseph is a player who can genuinely lay claim to the title so many give to JR. He's been our best tagger BY FAR and he's a first year rookie for god sake! Plus, when he does get the ball, he seems to use it fairly well. MORE IMPORTANTLY, he seems to want to run with it. JR has had 5 years in the system and has show nothing apart from sub-standard skills (by both hands and foot) and poor decision making. He played an ok game against the bulldogs, but that's it. Oh, and the Brisbane match (round 2) was a decent one also. But players like Anderson and Bannister and a few others have been consistant in the VFL and i'd take them over Russell anyday. Again, this is nothing personal againt the kid, i'm sure he's a top bloke. But he is not up to AFL standard and i've asked any of his supporters to prove otherwise but nobody has put forward a valid argument. |

ryan2000 wrote: He cannot handball and is a shocking kick Disagree. In the matches where JR has been very visible, IMO his ball use has been generally above average. |

JR is easily our best 'defensive half forward goal kicking rebounding half back tagger'. no one can do what JR does. |

Aren't people done with the JR bashing? I mean when will people let it go, there are plenty of players on everyones list that for some reason or another have not made it to the level that was expected of them. Is he in our best 22, I don't think any on here believe he is. Is he worth keeping on the list? Definantly, every team has injuries and JR can come in and play a role. |
