Post subject:  Is it just me or do the maggots hate Fev?
Just finished watching the torrent for the game against West Coast and it really bought home the fact that Fev is really victimised by the umpires.

There were at least 4 occasions on Friday night where if it was the opposition forward I wuld have thought a free justified, yet nothing from the umpires.

This week has been no exception as I have noticed it for a while now.

I know he can be a sook at times and I am an on the fence Fev fancier, but Friday was one of those games where he pulled his head out, took the bad umpiring and replied the best way how ... on the scoreboard.

Would really like to hear the opinions of others on the subject.

To be honest Fev should concentrate on earning his kicks rather than expecting a handout. He reminds me a bit of that freak Johnson for Geelong. If they try and make it obvious to the umpire then the umpire ignores the attempt at the oscar and rightfully so.

Seriously the umpiring over the last few weeks has been quite good in that they have remembered it is a contact sport and have kept soft free kicks to a minimum.

On balance 90% of the time they get it right the other 10% can be a hairpulling experience. But just imagine if a side had 90% kicking efficiency and 90% goal conversion rate.

If we are going to slag any umpire about bias we should first do a statistical study of the free kicks. I.e. average free kicks inside their forward 50 vs their opposition done for each team.

Perhaps Jarusa might be able to help.

However the players should remember that it is their job to put the result beyond doubt and out of touch of any dubious decision.

A psych professor said a couple years back that it is just human nature for umps to sometimes favour the players they like, who are the clean players.

So it makes sense Lloyd and Judd get lots of frees, while Fev gets very few.

Reckon Fev stages for a few to be honest.

No doubt that Fev should get at least half a dozen more frees every week, if the umps paid them according to the law (just look at those soft but technically correct frees paid to WC forwards on Friday). The umps are human though, and they just don't give many frees to guys that give them lip. Its wrong but it happens, and always will.

He does.

He's so strong that without making it too obvious he can pull his opposition down with him and make it look like they have fallen in his back...does it alot and did it twice against WC and wasn't rewarded.....

He treated Nathan Brown from Collingwood like a ragdoll last year and that goal that he kicked on the ground he had Nathan's jumper the whole time......Nathan just got dragged everywhere with him...was funny.

Fev is a joker and a doofus....he argues all the time....and won't let up.

Lloyd has no personality at all....and doesn't seem to give the umpires any real grief at all.

It's just the way it is, umpires appear to pay frees with an eye on players' reputations which is why Judd and Ablett get ages to dispose of the ball before they're pinged.

Fev suffers because he's lippy and spends a lot of time appealing for free kicks.

I don't think Judd has been given the leniency in the past few weeks that he's had in the last few years.

Fev I think would definitely get more frees if he pulled his head in for a while.

Franklin and Fev both get treated much the same. Because they are great forwards, Umps tend not to give them much, figuring they'll earn a few anyway.

Not specific examples I know, but too many times you watch an incident, and you can say to yourself, they'll pay that against Fev, regardless of how far behind play. Also the umps delight in paying the 50s against him.
Not for one moment saying these aren'tr free kicks, but I reckon I can say with 99% certainty, umps NEVER MISS FREES AGAINST Fev.

Unfortunately the same can never be said about incidents in reverse.

Exactly - at one stage Fev was bent over and Glass was giving it to him in a doggie like fashion.

Fev past of abusing umpires on the field means those maggots will only pay him a free if its 100% technically correct. Fev can be pushed in the back, arms chopped and jumper hold and the backmen will get the benefit of the doubt...

I think Fev does alright. He gets a few dodgy ones that make up for the missed kicks. He'd get even more if he'd stop arguing and play the ball until he can play nomore. Fev argues while the ball is still within 2 metres :roll: .

Obviously he's too stupid to understand that an umpire won't change his mind.

How many players give up on a contest to argue with an umpire? Only our Fev :thumbsup: .

The way I see it, if there is a free kick, it should be paid no matter who is on the receiving end.

I agree DUC, but as mentioned earlier, if you play for the kick whether it's there or not, it makes it harder for the ump to know if it IS really there.

One on one with Fev as big and strong as he is, a quick ball in will mean the FB will almost certainly infringe. Just let nature take its course and the frees will come.
