Just got back from the match.

Looked as though we tried going 'up the guts' from the kick out a bit more often. Rather than that kick to the back pocket then out to the wing rubbish.

HOORAY!

Anyone else think that or do my contact lenses need a good cleaning?

I thought we looked much better with Houlihan, Fisher, Garlett, Betts supporting Fev.
Did look like we tried to go down the middle more which is also good but we have to be able to do that against stronger teams than West Coast.
A lot more positive this week but we all know what we are capable of which is why we tend to focus more on the negative - ie. areas we can improve.
The question for me is why are we not dominating the clearances, given our midfield?

Major improvements:
- Forward set up
- Cleaner hands
- More contributors
(& all the ins did very well)

Areas to work more on:
- Clearances
- Slowing th eplay (the ball in the air) - either we have to get MUCH better at it or, preferably, ditch it altogether. 50% of the time, we end up giving up possession & a scoring opportunity to opposition, in which case I'd rather continue to attack.
- Playing strongly against stronger teams. Well, playing stronger more consistently... given we have lost to weaker teams on several occasions.

Sorry Tora but I think they could do with a saline wash  I thought the kick ins were still our normal crap. We seem to take forever to kick the bloody thing in. Several times we had to wairt for Stevo to come in to pick up the ball, write an essay & then decide to kick it to the pocket, then we bomb it down the line.

Our kick ins are so so predictable

does any other side have one bloke to kick in and then he plonks the ball on the ground and calls another bloke to kick in?

Otherwise did what they had to do. Should have won by more and that was the worst umpired game ever - who was number 2 the @#$%&! red maggot!

Ahh yes for 75% percent of them - completely agree.

I thought we went through the centre a few times.
However not enough and only when the game was pretty much over.

They would only need to do it once for it to stick out for me.

Helped hugely by the opposition tonight, but winning and winning well was what we needed. Think of how many 7 goal victories we've enjoyed in the past 5 years and we shouldn't look this gift horse in the mouth.

West Coast gifted us the ball back every time we turned it over and were really pretty bad, Le Cras aside. Kerr has found out what it's like to be the man...

Came out with intent which is good. Very ordinary game of football though.

Didn't really notice the umpires on he telly - probably let a few go but it was both ways - I reckon we got the better of it in the end

I really thought we looked Ordinary....this sort of performance will not get us anywhere near the top 4 teams.....

too many basic skill errors and west coast actually killed us in the middle... we didnt have anyone today, apart from Judd who was willing to dig in and play hard footy in the middle....

Your probably thinking i went to the wrong Game, but the 41 point margin is really a compliment because West coast are So bad when they play in Melbourne, it can make any team look good...

Let's not forget young AJ who put in a tremendous shut-down effort on Kerr

Can we please give Hartlett a go at CHF. I just cant see the sense in playing Carlos there (he`s no forward) or, as occurred at times tonight, going to Eddie or Jeff Garlett as leading forward targets.
Hartlett is big,can lead, can mark and can kick.
In the light of Waitey`s injury now is the time.

Let's see how he goes with the Bullies this weekend.

Yes,fair enough, but he has been in the best for the last few weeks and form doesn`t seem to count for much as far as selections is concerned anyway.
Would give us a better forward set up.

1. I agree with Dannyboy. Worst umpiring in a long time. Kerr gives Murphy one in the guts in front of the ump before the bounce, Murphy is on the ground winded and gets a free paid against him. And how flowerin' long was Kerr allowed to hang on to the ball when he gets tackled?

2. Our kicking for goal was poor again. This was a 70+ point win whittled down to 41.

3. Garlett has something pretty special about him. Takes a courageous mark in the middle of the ground then plonks it doen Fev's throat. Once the kid starts to believe he is an AFL footballer he will be a gun.

4. One of the best games I have seen from T-Bird for quite some time, whereas Jamo got towelled I thought. Juddy just absolutely blew them out of the water in the last quarter.

5. Eagles played some pretty dirty pool I thought, but the boys didn't shy away from it and came out on top despite the crap umpiring. I will be wearing my Blues scarf proudly around town tomorrow.

Goodness, What a tough crowd. A good win, Many good contributers, and so much negative feedback ???????
Judd, great as he always is
Fev, Great against a quality opponent.but bad kicking, (pick a target behind the goals, watch the ball on to the boot, and kick to the target, it is THAT simple!) My humble opinion, miss a set shot inside 40m, and fine the player $1000. Watch how soon the kicking improves! Glass is the best defender in the comp, followed by Presti, and Scarlett, when you take into account how your midfield defends against the fast break, when a full back has no chance.
Winning midfield who hits more targets than the opposition. You will not beat Cox in the middle, so if you win the clearances, which We did, You are way ahead.
Don't bag Ratten, I think Jesalenko was the last coach to kick a goal, We need to get the ball, then, not turn it over, that is the key. Geelong do not turn the ball over because their second efforts, not just tackling, but the effort to get back into the defensive position after they have run foward is unbelievable. They do the basics very well, with a few brilliant players ,not individuals, but, as a team. The Hawks were able to up their game for 100 minutes in the GF, not just 20, like most teams. It reminds me of (sorry to say it ) Collingwood, in 1990, not the best club going around, but playing as a team. Anyway, I have had my say, now, let rip and tell me where I am wrong..........

The media are Judd crazy, understandable but hardly objective.
Listening to the radio on the way home from the game and every commentator thought Judd was our best.
He played very well, as usual, but Murphy was simply outstanding, drove us forward time and time again and seemed to be everywhere.
Oh, and our front half looks better minus Wiggo, sorry Wiggler.

We will finish 5th at best this year.

We still have a long way to go and Waite's loss is huge. Still some positives
Joseph is terrific
Browne is a good player
I have always like o'Hailpin in the team but he needs to play in one position. He played forward and back tonight. No go
Austin yep wil be good
Hampson needs persisiting with
Kreuzer is terrific. Would love him up forward when Warmock is fit
Bower terrific
gartlett is a special talent. We look a better side when he is in the team

We still lack that medium style hard to match up marking forward
A big mother in defence

Some players dont play with enough intensity for 100 minutes
Stevens, Houlihan,Gibbs
Overall a better efffort. We seemed to have more structure but if we play to that standard next week we will lose at the Gabba

I thought Garlett's inclusion was a big plus.

His pressure on opposition players and chasing/pressuring was exceptional and his 2 goals were a great return for him.

Really adds defensive pressure in the F50 when he plays, which is an A+ in my book.
