Pros

Yarran definitely looks an elite midfielder of the future. Great vision, disposal and footy smarts.

With more game time under Browneys belt he'll be one of our main playmakers.

Cons

Wateys injury will affect our structure. Terrible luck for him as he was in great form. Wish him all the best.

Our engine room had a number of faulty spark plugs today which left the team very spluttery.

Pro:

I didn't have to watch that crap.

Not sure if there were many others.

Con:

The guys' heads aren't in the right space when we travel. That's 3 travel matches we've dropped now. 3 Winnable ones too.

We had a chance to seal 3rd on the ladder, and pissed it away.

Woeful.

Con:

Had an oportunity today to establish ourselves as the real deal. So how could it be it was like watching the dark years all over again?

The whole club should marinate on that question for a helluva long time.

Today was piss poor and that's putting it mildly.

PROS

Stevens best game for some time
Browne was solid
Yarran got better - looked to have picked up the speed of the game in the 2nd half
Simmo worked hard
Kreuser and Murphy kept at it

CONS
Judd had a shocker
Gibbs also had a shocker - terrible disposal from both of them
Eddie and Fev missing again
Armfield tries hard but not really up to it
Wiggo - may be the end

WAITE - lets hope its not as bad as it looks

Coaching staff - why did we give them so much respect in the first half? What were we thinking

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

There will be a flood of cons and we all know that on that effort for the first half it could go longer than the Judd thread. So i'll keep mine to a mimmum.

CON
First quarter structure - with the wind we kick to an empty forward line - they were always going to come out hard and we play into thier hands by flooding and having a 1000 contests :banghead: Is this the instruction or the implementation????
Can we win a clearance please - maybe its still taking time for the new rucks to put the plan in place.
Jordan Russell (i have been really happy with his development this year) but today was a disaster for the boy.
Gibbs - has dropped off over the past few weeks - i'd love to give him his head in the middle - please get him out of the back pocket.

PRO
Well i have to eat my words today as i have been critical of Stevens for his disposal and efforts over the time but today he was one who actually stood up in the first half.
A light for the future - Bower great, Joseph on McLeod was fantastic, Jamo ok (still worry about those shoulders though), Austin was ok also.
Murphy and Kruser- ran themselves into the ground.

Very ordinary effort from the CLUB in the first half and got beat by what you would have thought given the margin at half time.

Will be an interesting week at selection this week.

(Ready to jump at Darwin - see ya)

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Pros
Stevens
Murphy
Bower
Kruezer

Cons
Armfield - early days but I just don't think he has it in him.
Wiggins - almost the same as for Armfield...
Crappy disposal from too many players.
Game plan
Attitude
Am very disappointed (again). Too often we fail in matches that would really show our improvement.
Waite's injury

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Have not read this thread yet, so will get mine in before they are repeated 100 times!

PROS

- Joseph, did his job well.
- Bower, will be a Carlton great one day, team of this century.
- Forwards, thought they all did a good job, mids and defenders let them down today.

CONS
- Lot of good players down at once, Judd, Gibbs, Murphy all had terrible games. Murph, do not play for frees and keep your feet, Gibbs look up the ground, you are good enough to dish off 40M+ everytime. Judd, you were scragged all day and when you got it did not hurt them, you were not really at fault.
- Russell, simply his most awful game of all time, and that is saying something, because Russell is the worst 50 game player I have ever seen for the Blues. He always seems to do enough to avoid the chop each week. Would not be surprised if he is given another chance. If not goodbye and do not come back until you are better.
- Hadley, the invisibable man, I hope he is gone for 2010.
- Stevens, good second half, but he had freedom today, no-one was on him and in the fist half his turnovers were abysmal. Needs to lift the team when he is free. I would not drop him yet, but long term, I do not see him getting better.

Forgot to add Kruezer and Austin to the PROs.

Both had excellent games and did not let their team-mates down.

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Pros:

I actually think people misunderstand what happened at the end of the Hawthorn game. It is clear from the MC decisions taken since then that the club saw exactly what the rest of us saw that day, and that is we aren't going anywhere with our bottom 5 or 6 players. So since then we've put in guys like Hampson, Yarran, Austin, Robinson, and Browne. The Club had clearly reached a 2004 type position where it could go only so far given the limitations of the list, and clear and decisive decisions have been taken to rectify this. That has set us back no doubt - we could have kept those bottom 5 or 6 in the team and probably made the finals. But instead we chose to suck it up now and we will be all the better for it, and much sooner. Hampson, Yarran, Austin, Robinson and Browne all showed glimpses today - and if they all play another 8-12 matches on average this year, then we'll be much, much better for it in 2010.

Kreuzer - give this man 4 offseasons and he will be an absolute weapon
Joseph - great game on McLeod
Murphy - hopeless first half, but worked his butt off in the second half
Hampson - held another good grab. Is getting there and needs to be persevered with
Yarran -if the critics didn't see glimpses of very special talent today, then they never will

Cons

The club is probably not playing finals this year - but that is a better result than might forst seem, so long as we keep playing these young blokes.

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Lets face it we were thrashed by and average side who were committed to the task!

Pros:

Thronton as a forward (Finally)
Browne in defence (Finally)
Austin (he is our CHB)
Josephs job on McLeod
Stevens, Bower, Murphy
Kruezer is our best key fwd (we need Jacobs or Warnock in to allow him at FF)
Glimpses of Yarran (liked him off a HBF even though it wasn't for long)

Cons:

Lack of effort
Team structure and selection
Ridiculous moves for no reason
Armfields disposal (although I like his attack on the ball)
Waite injury
Russell & Wiggins get found out by pressure sides
Hopefully some of Anderson, Garlett, Ellard, Bannister, Grigg will get a go (please not Fisher or Houlihan that is going backwards)
Using the old fashioned flood?

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

My Pros were definitely:

Bower - he is doing amazingly at the moment - it is great since he (seemingly) regained his confidence
Jamison - I thought he had his best game since his return - he's not back to 2008, but he was showing signs
STEVO - absolutely great effort
Browne - I agree with the sentiment that he'll develop into a gun for us

Judd - wasn't able to save us - so players got a better idea of the fact that they can't expect him to be able to smash games open. (Yes, I think it is a plus he wsa held - as long as we USE that....)

Awesome post.

With the team we played today, there is no way we will play finals this year. It's time to develop the side, not stroke the supporters egos.
