In order to curb Fee Fi Fo Fum's influence I would've nominated a couple of players to act as third man up at stoppages around the ground.

I would've instructed Fevola to lead to the same pocket every time as a decoy and plonked Cloke in the square with Betts and Yarran at his feet in a bid to convert at least some of our forward 50 entries into goals.

i would have slapped brendan fevola around with a wet fish

would have cleared out the 50 kinda like your suggestion above and had us use the corridor and play on more

would have also brought a defensive midfielder in at the stoppages and placed him just behind our ruckman

Waite kicked 3 in the second quarter, I would have left him in the forward line.
I would have given Eddie a run on the ball to try and shake Dodd.
I would have tried Cloke in the ruck to try and give us something and tried either Hampson or Kruezer up forward for prolonged periods.
I would have left Fev on the bench for the entire game.
I would have tried Aaron Joeseph on Haselby after the first quarter. Instructions would have been stop him getting the ball and when we have the ball run for your flowering life.

I would have told our team to kick more goals and less points.

I would have sent our VFL team in after half time - they know how to win!

I think they did this regularly.

Agree with that.

I would have instructed our midfield to adopt a defensive approach to the stoppages and understand that the ruck contests were heavily weighted in Fremantle's favour. I would have repeatedly told them to keep an eye on how many of our blokes were going to ground compared to Freo's to come up with the contested ball.

I would have instructed our ruck division to be fresh for the times when Sandilands was spelled because that was our opportunity to cease control at the stoppages.

I would told our small forwards excluding Betts to apply more defensive pressure and I would have told Cloke that providing a stationary target in a zone is asking too much of our midfield's skill level coming off a taxing game against the Hawks. He has a big body and he should be using it like he was in the first two rounds.

I would have told our defenders to not push so far up field just because their opponents are. I would have told them not to overcommit to contests, and to work the spoil and trust your team mate to mop up while you look to apply the shepherd. Like wise I would tell the bloke staying down to trust his team mate in the contest and to be mindful of Freo's blokes on the ground and position themselves for the mop up accordingly.

Furthermore, I would have told the entire to recognise the greasy conditions and be prepared for basic handling errors; take chest marks, have faith in the knock-on to advantage, don't be afraid to kick long to a genuine contest, don't be afraid to peg the ball to space forward of centre just to advance our field position.

If you can't trust your team mates to win the 50/50s, any scheme or system you're using will fall apart, and players will lose confidence in their own abilities as well as their team mates. What worries me even more is that the system we're operating might be built off that very idea and resultantly, be fundamentally flawed.

I would have had someone jumping up as the 35rdf man up at rucks contests. We have done this before, so why not do it against a man who is 248cm tall and murdering us?

I would have left Waite at FF because he was proving to be our only viable forward option.

I would have left Hammer up there too cause he provided a bit of a spark (defensive pressure, created opportunities), moreso than Cloke did anyhow.

Just listened to the post-match from Ratts and he made it clear he'd spoken of this during the game, so consider these withdrawn. ;)
