After feeling flat and dejected following the team's poor showing against the Dockers I wondered how different people react. It used to be that I'd be surly for the rest of the day and often most of the next after a loss, but I recently realised that letting it affect my day to day life wasn't doing me much good (not to mention household harmony). These days I give myself an hour or so to calm down and just let the disappointment wash over me until I start to feel that I'm beginning to be less prickly and less focussed on the game. I deliberately don't read the papers the day after losing and I'd also avoid footy forums, or at least the footy parts of footy forums. Come Monday afternoon I feel my excitement and optimism for the next game creeping up on me and by Tuesday the weekend just gone is no longer in the forefront of my footy mind. I don't know if that's anything like anyone else but it works for me. |

I was actually going to start a thread on this (but didn't because I wasn't sure whether it should go in the PMD thread ![]() To me reading TC after a loss is great therapy. In the old days before internet forums I would mope around for two or three days and feel sorry for myself. If I was lucky I would catch up with a couple of Carlton supporting friends but more would not be said than actually said. These days you can read exactly what Carlton supporters are thinking moments after things happen. Seeing other people taking the loss much much harder than I do is great. Makes me feel heaps better. I was over the loss to Freo within a couple of hours! Seeing others suffer more is great, you realise that it is actually not that bad. |

Actually, Woj I am pretty much the same as you; reflect for an hour, move on, ignore the papers, and then start to become optimistic by the Tuesday again. The only difference for me is that I nearly always jump on TC to see how many Richmond supporters we have gained........ .........seriously, I jumped on here the other night after the loss really wanting to vent some anger and after reading the first couple of posts I had to check the score again to make sure we hadn't lost by 107pts!!! I didn't feel the need after that. It seems evident the more that the expectations climb, the more the losses hurt. |

If I haven't already seen the match, I always make sure I watch a reply- as painful as it is already knowing the result.... learn more about the team from a loss than a win. I usually avoid TC for one or 2 days afterwards! ![]() |

As soon as the final siren sounds, the word "flower" gets a real good work out. The next day when talking to co workers it then turns into, "Flowering usless C*$#!" On the the third day its, "Flower em, they'll turn it round this week" On the 4th day, "They better Flower win this week" This is my therapy, use the word "flower" as often as you will. Usually takes about 4 days but you will notice that "flower" will change from disappointment to optimism as the week goes on. The more times you use the word "flower" the quicker the recovery is after a loss !!!!!!! |

I always blame myself. I try and recall exactly what is was I did during the day which caused our loss and vow to make sure I don't do it again in the future. |

Furious for the rest of the day, maybe the next. Still fairly shirty about it for the next couple of day after the match. Usually some time around Tuesday/Wednesday I've put it out of my head, and moved on to the next match But I still get a little pissed off if I think about the loss again. Reading TC (well the main board at least) after any loss usually makes me even angrier. All the massive overreactions by people really get my goat. I really don't know why I read TC after a loss. |

When we were kids, if we couldnt go to the game and it wasnt on telly (and not many were in those days), my brother used to sit in his room and listen to the game on radio. Periodically there would be loud crashing noises etc coming from his room. If we lost you wouldnt talk to him for a week or so. His negativity/vitriol made the posters on here look like Girl Guides, plenty of emotion. About 10 years ago my brother and i helped mum and dad move out of that house since my brother and I are now married with mortgages of our own. When we were leaving i did a final check to see we hadnt left anything behind. I looked in the wardrobe of my brother's room. The inside of both wardrobe doors were full of fist sized holes!! I told dad and then my brother who fell around all over the floor laughing. Apparently many years ago, after that game where sticks just had to kick a point to beat the Scum after the siren and he instead managed a helicopter punt out on the full, my brother was so enraged he launched himself at the wardrobe door, kicking and punching holes in it. After calming down and realising that Dad was likely to now do the same thing to him, my then 15 yo brother took both doors off the hinges, turned them around (so the pristine inside of the door was showing), swapped the handles around and put the doors back on. Saved his bacon right up until he left home. Suffice to say he bought mum and dad some new doors a week or so after they moved out. |

After last Saturday's debacle, I turned off the TV as soon as the siren (so I wasn't heav-ing while Freo were ho-ing) then checked out the TV guide and saw that Wolf Creek was on. After watching John Jarratt shooting and slicing a few backpackers I felt a bit better ![]() |
