We seem to lack physicality in the centre especially when Judd Gibbs and Murphy go off the ball. We have brought in Hadley to cover but I would like to hear your thoughts on Setanta bing tried for a few games as a ruck rover. He doesn't seem to have grasped the backman or forward position but has shown his best football around the ground, on ball in the ruck contests, and as a link player in the VFL. He has height pace agression and is not scared to get down and dirty to get the ball. He will play to instructions and feed it out to our runners and would provide protection for Judd etc. Would he be a good player in close where his height and strength would cause problems.

Setanta could be the second coming of Leigh Matthews and he still wouldn't get much of a look in.

Ratten is holding a grudge against him over the events that occured last year and earlier this year.

His career IMO is finished unfortunately.

Reasonable call. Why not try it. We've tried Hadley and he isn't up to the task and he is too slow.

I used to be a big Setanta supporter, but late last year and this year I have gone off him as a senior option for the club. He has gone backwards rather than continue to improve.

Might be good on the list as a backup for injuries for the next couple of years.

He is very versatile and can do a decent job in several areas, so he might actually last on the list for a couple more years for this reason.

I no longer see him as a 'top 22' player in any position.

I wonder whether the following would continue to improve:

1. Gibbs played in the ruck every game

2. Hammer played at FB every game

3. AJ played at CHF every game

4. Thornton played at FF every game

If you wanted to kill Santy's career, playing him as a permanent ruckman in both the seniors and the Bullants is a pretty good way to go about it.

Pretty much sums up the situation perfectly. Don't know what the big Irishman has done to Ratts but it is obviously personal, he has had his card marked the minute Pagan was shown the door. Certainly no coincidence that Aisake's career hit an abrupt roadblock at the same time. Up until that point was developing rapidly at the Ants (as independantly confirmed by informed watchers).

How good would Setanta have been if he was given the same opportunity as Russell or even Cloke?? Think about it.

Ratten has a long way to go before he can convince me that he has the plan to succeed. Bad losses against what we considered lesser opposition with no plan B when things go FUBAR on the field.

Just taking off my rose coloured glasses and calling it how I see it.

Jars, Setanta was injured late last year. In that period Ratts publicly stated that we were missing his height and athleticism in defense.

And as for this year, how many minutes in what position has he played that you are judging him by.

Give him a break.

Very harsh.

All of you
All of you

It's OK bondi, I'd like Wiggo and Cloke to be dropped as well.

Can't get all your wishes in just one week though.

I would like to see him as a wingman, but then again he could be a wingman (hitman) in the middle to clear the path for Judd and Murphy.

I would be interested if he could play that role. I just don't think he's been developed to be an accumulator or linkman.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him being groomed for a Fwd KP. I reckon he can play back easily; he's proven it.

He's a valuable utility.

not a good option - would be liable to give away more frees than he gets the contested ball due to over enthusiasm.

Overenthusiasm ...

I'd take any kind of enthusiasm right now.

Tempered enthusiasm is much better.

Surely you get sick of alternating between 'we are the greatest ever, flag here we come' and 'we are shit, sack the coach, we arent improving, lets slash our wrists' that happens on these boards everytime we win or lose? Thats what overenthusiasm does for you - plenty of passion but not much rhyme or reason

That's true of footy forums, but when the chips are down I want to see some enthusiasm, vigour and passion from the players on the field. Going into their shells is not a good thing.

Need to have good skills and nous to play on-ball, and Setanta has neither (when under pressure).

Is that GAWN from the ruck rover idea and
NEXT position for him to plug up for the coach with no idea and no creativity?

Setanta will have a role to play on our list until there's someone as tall and a better footy player who is in form.
