Post subject: | Coaching Staff |
A blues fan on 3AW yesterday rang up about the coaching staff at Carlton as being a problem. He was chopped down a bit as Healy and Co. said that DP had great success with TE at the Roos and Mitchell had good credentials. I'm just wandering how everyone feels about the makeup of our coaching staff? Obviously we have DP for another 3 yrs or so but should we be looking at the support staff? Other teams seem to have more support coaches - does DP prefer a tighter group? |

TE seems to be Pagans gopher. Mitchell is a genuine smartarse and l was very disappointed when libba was appointed, who I reckon has contributed didly squat to this group in terms of midfield setups, tackling, etc. Basically apart from Pagan (I have not lost faith just yet) we have an average setup. |

and who out of DP TE Libba and Mitchell teaches skills. Each week we see evidence that no-one does. We seem to have a pretty small coaching team with a few very part timers thrown in. And who on our coaching panel has imagination. Surely you need someone who is a bit creative, who can come up with subtle set plays that get you a goal here and there and confuse the opposition. I think we need a serious full time skills coach and someone on the panel who will stand up and question the accepted wisdom. Whatever the players are being told is either the wrong thing or isn't happening on the field. |

Funny............when did Wayne come in? I thought it was after the Wizzard Cup. When ever it was, we have had no forward line structure since he arrived! |

The area were we continually get murdered is at stoppages.I thought our season depended on our ability to win clearances.Sad to say it is still our archilles heal. Its putting huge pressure on our backline and forward line as well to a lesser degree. What hope have the boys down back when it is pumped in so quick .If you dont get first touch then you are up against it. My point being that Elshaug,Mitchell, and Liberatore are all ex onballers and this should be an area that we excell.Dennis stated proudly that he now had a midfield to work with. For mine this is were we are being let down and what is going on.Ratten virtually ressurected the Demons onballers single handedly. Why the hell did Libba get the nod over triple flag player Marcus Ashcroft who also applied for the job.Got a feeling Dennis likes yes men........No , the internal dynamics of our coaching group is just not balanced enough. To me,Ashcroft would have been the perfect addition.A triple premiership player, and coached by leigh Mathews.Reckon we let a great oppurtunity to get a bit of outside influence go there. And i am not having a dig at this group coz we are going bad.Check earlier posts and i have been critical of this aspect since day one. Also wanted Ashcroft from the start. |

It's like there's a chasm between centre and full forward, where most teams pu their half-forwards. I say throw a bag of cash at Carey to get him over with DP full-time. And kick Libba out on his arse. I never liked him as a player, and any specialist coach who can actually ruin Nick Stevens' natural game isn't worth the steam off my piss. |

Totally agree, Mickstar. Ashcroft was a solid smart midfielder whom experienced the lows (at the Bears) and the highs (at the Lions). I also was a huge advocate of Ashys at the time, and was disappointed we didn't choose him ![]() |

I think that you have to have the manpower before they can execute your plans and we just don't have them at present. We execute the plans and skills well when on the track but under pressure some of the list loose composure and their lack of skill and contested marking ability shows out. We don'ty have the depth in midfielders or flankers to be able to afford for Scotland Chambers McGrath Houlihan Lappin Wiggins Sporn to lbe out of form. |
