Are you the analytical type who mentally tallies player stats, notes matchups and rotations and pre-empts coaching moves or are you the type who is that immersed in the emotion and drama of the game that they can at the end of the day vividly remember a handful of specific highights but not provide more than a passing analysis of tactics, player movements etc?

I personally struggle to remember who matched up on who at the opening bounce or who lined up on the member's wing during the second 1/4 but I'll have an Eddie Betts goal from the boundary etched on my memory for months to come.

I'm the type who has every intention of providing an unbiased analytical summary of Richard Hadley's performance until Richard Hadley's girlfriend comes and sits next to me and then the bias gets thrown out the window as the thought of any analytical performance no longer pertains to anything football related.

Yep I'm the same as you. If someone is killing us I will take note of who is playing on him like Roughead on the weekend but other than that it doesn't really go through my head.

I noticed on the weekend that Hawthorn's interchange bench was the same at the start of every quarter.
I was looking for Carrazzo to line up on Hodge and Cloke and Stevens to head to the interchange bench for the start of the game. One out of three ain't bad.
I also noticed a heap of Blues fans leave their seats after Hawthorn got 25 points up with about 10 minutes left in the game. I'm not quite sure what catergory you put them in but I was staggered to see them walk out.

I get caught up in the emotion and drama, but try to keep a clear mind about what is going on and do a fair bit of silent, well, not loud coaching. I do a fair bit of 'geeing up' of the boys ie "Go on Houla, get in there, good work, yesss to Fev, silk pure silk." "Thats it Carlos, hit em.' I never ever bag out one of our players. If they do something really bad its "Ohhhhh nooooo!!!" Actually I spent a lot of time over the past few years going 'Ohhhhhh Noooooo!!!!!' usually with my head in my hands.

All I do is swear.

Repeatedly.

At umpires, opposition players, opposition fans, God, the kid selling records, the plastic beer cups, the clouds.

Ok, I swear at everything.

I'm one of those that sits quietly at the game.

Actually, its the same when I at the kids soccer. The other parents are yelling out encouragement (including my son) and I just stand there quietly watching. I just can't bring myself to yell and scream.

Same.

I watch the game unfold, and the individual pieces of play, and individual battles between players.

You don't need stats to show who played well, and who didn't. The numbers don't count for as much now, with the emphasis on possession.

The drama of the match is as important to me as the result. Well, maybe not quite as much, when Carlton's playing....last Saturday's match being a case in point. Last Satuurday, I got so into the match, my hands were shaking with the adrenalin of those last minutes, for 5-10 minutes after the final siren.

I also yell at the TV or at the ground. A lot. And I invent new swear words. I have what my best mate calls "Footy Tourette's".

I do behave myself when it comes to watching while there are children about though. I think people should try and watch in the right spirit, just as the game should be played in the right spirit.

+1

nobody in my family understands why I have to watch the replay after every match... win lose or draw, but its only because when i'm at the game, the whole thing is usually a blur of excitement and frustration and joy (except for the last minute of saturday's game)

You may take your meds, but remember: There is no cure.

At the ground I'm more analytical.

On TV it's more emotional involvement. Don't annoy me when Carlton are on TV

The biggest issue is my mood is impacted greatly by a result until the next day.

My Mum after so many bloody years still calls me in the middle of a game to ask when is Carlton playing? oh Whats the score? :yikes:

If you know it's her, don't answer!

It sounds like my Mum, who after me having a mobile phone for 15+ years now, her first question on me answering is "Where are you?" :banghead: :banghead:
