Those of you who attended the 2005 jumper presentation will remember the speech Peter gave that night.

It was absolutely fantastic to hear from someone who, while I wasn't old enough to appreciate, was clearly a gun player and a legend of the club. Had some really funny things to say about Bruce Doull too.

As one club official said to me afterwards - "Everyone says Laurie Angwins story was a tragedy, but Peter Motleys was the real tragedy"

Filmed his speech that night too. Must dig it up and watch it again.

Spot on. Was the complete player - could run had good height, skillful, versatile, poise, balance, and excellent footy brain.

Yes...but remember Kernahan put pen to paper in 1981, saying he would come across when he played in a Glenelg Premiership. That Kernahan came across at the same time as Mots and Braddles was only due to Glenelg winning in '85. But with what they had done in SA before they came - it was widely regarded that Motley was the complete package.

Geoff Motley is an incredible man and a father to be admired by all.

I know he wouldn't want sympathy but I can't help but feel sad about what could have been, not for us as a club but rather that I still see the boy that was. I see so much of Mots in Bryce Gibbs so to those of you who were too young, imagine something similar happening to someone of that ilk these days.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Mots twice, just the biggest heart, deserved so much more in his footy career and life thus far.

It's good to keep him in our thoughts, he deserves that much.

86 was my first real year of going to the footy. I turned 9 that year. I only have hazy memories of Mots. I remember when the accident happened that I was asking Dad about what had happened, and it just never really made sense to me that he would never play the game again. Was it Braddles that gave him his '87 premiership medal?
