Adelaide is currently in a record run of consecutive victories against Carlton that stands at 3 beginning in Round 10, 2005 to Round 9, 2007 inclusive, will they match Carlton’s consecutive victories record against Adelaide that stands at 4 wins, which occurred between Round 16, 1994 to Round 3, 1997?

Again, not confident

CAR $2.15 / +8.5 $1.85 / up to 39.5 $2.70 / more than 39.5 $9
ADE $1.65 / -8.5 $1.95 / up to 39.5 $5.25 / more than 39.5 $2.20
Draw = $51

I am nervous about the outcome this week - it could go either way but I would really love for it to come down on the home side .. of course! .. but whether it will or not is the source of the nerves. . .

This page was formerly a nightmare; but it is starting to look better with the West Coast and Collingwood streak now ended.

Coming up is the ROund 8 fixture against the Lions, who have enjoyed 7 wins against us on the trot.

The Lions continued their streak, but perhaps one of the most offensive winning streaks against Carlton is the on we have a chance to break this week,

Yes....

Our last win was a record margin over the Dockers by Carlton as well.

i really think there are just some horrific mental scars carried by this club against some of these sides. look at how we played against st. kilda. we did the same thing again last night against brisbane. they seriously seem to be intimidated by these sides. its like they go in subconsiously thinking that they can't beat them. its only once these sides get to a comfortable margin in front that we start play with some freedom. i don't know how they overcome these issues. it will be interesting to see what happens against freo next week. freo are very ordinary, but are another side that we just don't seem to be able to overcome.

the opposite is true with these opponents as well. they go into these games with a confidence they don't have against other sides, with the almost certainty of what will happen. and we play straight into their hands. with nervous disposal and a complete lack of intensity, we play with an air of intimidation.

hopefully we take the chance to begin erasing our freo scar this week

Good question young padawan.

Carlton currently has not been in the finals for 6 years (last final 2001), which has equalled their worst in the League 1897-1902 (the first 6 years in the League). The VFA didn't have finals, but Carlton was not in the final 4 on their ladder for the last 5 years (1892-1896) (they were 2nd in 1891 behind Essendon*).

The other worst is 4 years (which happened 4 times) with the last year not in the finals being 1926, 1956, 1966 and 1992.

Carlton's longest Premiership drought was 23 years and the next worst was 21 years.

This is a good idea for a page in the site so will try to add in due course.

so at the end of this year we will have 7 seasons without finals. :(

but what a great indication of how succesful we have been for over 100 years in the vfl/afl. the worst we'd managed so far was 6 years without finals. hopefully we can end this shocking run in 09 and never have to worry about these bad records for a long time.

Yes, that's right. 2008 may indeed be a record breaking year for the wrong reason.

Our two longest running Opponent Winning Streaks, incidentally both the only teams to beat us in 1995, could come to an end in the next two weeks. First up is St Kilda, who extended their run to 10 against us earlier in the year. Then the Swans, who are already at 10.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +into+2008

Carlton has done well this year to end the Freo and WCE record winning streaks, but surely they do not rank anywhere near trying to end these records.

Lets not forget that the Crows are also on a record winning streak against us. Although we couldn't end the records streaks of the Saints and Swans, we have ended those of the Dockers and the Eagles. So this week, ending another one would be a good result from an improving 2008.

Just to round out this thread for the year, Carlton enters 2009 with 4 record losing streaks against the Swans, Saints, Adelaide and North:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +into+2009

The Swans, saints and Crows streaks were not able to be stopped in 2008, whereas the North losing streakis a new one. The Blues were able to stop the WCE, Fremantle and Brisbane streaks through the year.

I mentioned this in the Hawks game thread, and thought perhaps it deserved its own discussion. Thus far our three losses have come to teams who have pre-existing 'streaks' against us. Do you guys think that the boys think differently when they come up against a team they haven't beaten for a long time and get a bit anxious when they have a chance of winning, or it's just a bit of coincidence?

Personally I feel that this is the year we need to start breaking these ducks, and until we do our boys will always be hampered by self-doubt. Next: Crows, Saints, Roos. We should aim to win at least two of these (preferably one against the saints).
