Fluffy article that skirts around the issues and asks more questions than it answers.

IMO we will not be able to challenge the top sides until we learn to play without Fev.

I think that was taken out of context.

Fev was upset at Gibbs for having a ping from 50m instead of passing to him. The camera then showed Fev running towards the huddle mouthing off at Gibbs with Cloke just trying to settle him down. From the camera work it looks like Fev had cracked it at Cam but he was just being Fev by demanding the ball.

I remember seeing it at the time and thinking "oh Gibbsy is gonna cop it" then some media fool saw the brush with Cloke and played up the whole thing.

Oh I see...thanks Juddanaught. It looked like fev had a go at Clokey. Thanks for clearing that up! :thumbsup:

While that article asks a whole lot of questions, it ultimately has the answer.

It mentions a successful North with Carey, Geelong and Ablett missing a flag more than once, Barry Hall, Locket etc....

The essential underlying point in this article is that just about all the mentioned teams with star full forwards were successful teams, even if some missed out on flags....

Fev adds 5 - 6 goals per game to our structure because opposition players in Fev's vicinity start zoning off or sagging the zone a little whenever he is a chance of getting the ball. You just don't get that effect from Cloke, or Wiggins, or Carlos, or Hartlett, or Edwards, or Fisher... The idea of Hampson as a key forward weapon might be a fable as well.

As we saw from the weekend, we have the players in our side to exploit those gaps in the best sides. That, IMO, is the precise reason why Cloke is getting a little cold in Yarran's seat. For the best balance and most damaging use of Fevola's ability, when Yarran is ready, we go with the crumbers - who can create from a pack situation or cause a stoppage for our midfield unit to capitalise - and play an extra mobile, defensive tall. The hard part of coaching is knowing when Yarran will be ready - we are still trying to win games, and you don't win if you have to carry blokes that you're counting on for goals.

I should also add that I think moving Waite forward will cause the house of cards to fall - if there is no replacement for his combination of smarts and ability down back... especially his athleticism. Forget his kick-in skills. He should never have picked up the ball.

FWIW, I also think that Waite is the only other forward our list to have enough presence to make opposition defenders second guess themselves.

Warnock, Hampson, Austin, Walker, Robinson and Yarran will all make a much more dangerous and versatile side in years to come.

I couldn't agree more.

The thought of those six reaching their potential and replacing the bottom six in the current squad is worth getting excited about.
