I have just copied and pasted this from the thread I started on BF as I would like to spread it as much as possible. Please read it and if you think it a good and appropriate gesture offer your support and together we will get as many Carlton people involved as possible. Thanks. : Dick Pratt has passed away and regardless of anything else that Dick has done in his life, we, as passionate Carlton people will always be indebted to him. He brought our great club back from the brink of extinction and this must never be forgotten. I feel that he did something very special for me personally as I am a part of the Carlton Football Club. He stepped in and helped me and every other Carlton supporter when we were on our knees and at risk of being lost forever. He was our saviour and therefore the most important person in our club's history. I feel like publicly showing my gratitude to Dick and there has been mention of supporter's wearing a black arm-band to the game this weekend. Now, I think this is a perfect gesture but I am a terrible person at judging what is appropriate and inappropriate in times like this so I would like to know how others feel. However, rather than keeping it to Rd 6 this year, if there is support for it, I believe it should be a tradition that we maintain in Rd 6 every year from 2009 onwards. The way I see it, it would show a great unity among Carlton people and gratitude/acknowledement for what Dick has done. Maintaining it every year will mean that in even 100 year's time Carlton supporters will be aware that it was because of Dick Pratt that they have the Carlton Football Club to support at all. If this has support I will do my best to get it some coverage so that supporter's outside of the BF community can take part as well. |

I like the idea. Tradition has to start somewhere. Pratt in my heart is indelible. For Carlton hearts and minds Richard is indelible. So why not an indelible gesture. |

Nice work Jell. I'm going to try and get SEN to mention it and I'll try and get in touch with someone important at Carlton to put a call out as well. |

How about we all who attend Saturdays game, wear some White tape, around our arms as a sign of respect and dignity for Richard. White as we are showing our respect and more to the point, the legacy and rebirth of the football club, we have before us? What do you guys say? We can post this across the boards and have a real presence and united front at the game on Saturday? I really believe in an alternate colour... For one, Dick was all about life. He did renew us, he gave us life and hope. White, is a part of our emblem, which in turn is a part of Dick and always will be?? What do you guys say? |

The black msg has already started all over the place, not a good idea to change it now. |

Yeah it is a bit late to change it now I think...sorry that I didn't ask on a colour but there was a need to rush to get this going so that it has momentum by Saturday. I think while white could have been nice, at least with black we will be united with the players and officials who will certainly be wearing black. I've emailed Coutt's and the Pratt Foundation and will try and get in touch with some Carlton people to give it a bit more coverage. ie Dave hughes, sam/tim lane....will Fev be on the footy show? I never watch it and I don't know if there is some way i can find out... |

I like what someone said about tradition has to start somewhere. Will it catch on? Like the jacket waving? I can see in years to come, young kids who love the Blues might like the idea. That's the sort of thing kids like. If the club come out and request fans to do it, then it could work. Then whether it happens every year only time will tell. |

I disagree with the idea. With respect, it's over the top. I'm sure the club will provide an appropriate memorial to one of Carlton's greatest men, but this isn't it. |

Rather than round 6 every year, maybe it should be the match immediately after April 28 each year? |

It might also be nice for the cheer squad to do a half decent banner this game. Could even have reference to his guensey number. I know it is easy to be critical from afar... |

A win this week followed by making the finals is the most fitting tribute for Richard Pratt if the team can deliver. |

The more I think about it, the more I think aramari might be right. Probably going over the top. The power of the internet. Perhaps the players can wear the armband every Round 6 (?), but I think it's going a bit far for the supporters to do it. Most definitely though the club should erect a statue of Dick outside Princes Park, he deserves it. |
