Someone sent me a fantastic piece of memorabilia through the Blueseum today.

I had to write an article about it.

The article is here: http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-read_artic ... icleId=105

Basically a letter written by Horrie Clover in 1927 in response to a Carlton fan who happened to cheer him up when he was down.

Just a marvellous piece of history.

They don't make footballers like that anymore.... they don't make people like that anymore.

Thanks for sharing that Jarusa. Intriguing to say the least.

Coincidentally, on a day when my brother received a most positive reply to a letter he sent to a current AFL coach.

Jars
That is a great insight into Horrie, and also the workings of a footballers
mind.
They are human, and we give them a hard time at times. Sometimes deserved.

As he said , he got many letters. Possibly some were probably very unhelpful, and as he was playing under difficulties at the time, this must have been like a ray of sunshine.

That's awesome - I have considered Horrie Clover Carlton's greatest servant for some time...marvelous memorabilia!

Fantastic stuff, Jamie.

As I said in an email to you a couple of weeks ago; supporters of other clubs must go green (or should that be blue) with envy when the see the Blueseum.

Many congratulations and keep up the great work.

Looking forward to seeing my 1947 journal reproduced soon.

Thanks for the reminder kkk. I have to get onto that job again, that journal will most likely find itself spread all over different parts of the site.

Thanks to everyone else for the kind words on the article.

The letter is a great one. I especially love the use of some uncommon words. Especially 'nemalgia' which even google has trouble finding a definition for, closest I could find is that it is a ye olde name for some type of medical complaint of the time, often healed with a special 'tonic' of the day, also good fer fixing 'poorness of the blood'.

Definitely a ripper letter and your added comments are good to provide backing. Lots of good articles have come on board in the last month after not much over summer.

I remember having to google a few words for an 1890 article we put up late last year - 'Cavil' was one which means petty argument. Then there was a smoke concert which we really couldn't find one for until we struck it lucky with a website that suggested it wsa a men-only all-you-can-smoke watch-the-dancers kind of night.
