Post subject: | Walls says Trade Fevola |
On "On the Couch" last night, Walls was talking about our list, and suggested that Fevola should be traded, the rationale being that he's worth more to a good team than he is to Carlton. I've thought along the same lines myself. We can't get good quality ball often enough and deliver it well enough to him. We aren't going to win a flag for a few years with the list we have. Look at Richmond - they trade Ottens for 2 high picks, to go with pick 1, 3, and 19 and have 5 top 20 picks - instant rebuild! We can do the same, or we can sit on Fev and have him and us frustrated until he's traded in 2 years, or until we are a decent team, by which time he may be 27-28. |

hate to say it but i agree with walls - trade now while he is worth something . Fevola wont be worth squat after 2 years of our crap midfield kicking the ball over his head. 5 top 20 picks would be fantastic. ( The PPs we will get this year included) Waite, Fisher, O'Hailpin and any of our future picks can cover for Fev. |

Trade him now - get 5 top players from the draft all under the age of 20 and a gun recruit from another club in the 20 - 23 age bracket and make the finals next year. This sounds much better - trade him |

Yes I saw that too, he also said that he would trade both Fev & Whitnall. |

I've been arguing this for most of this year. Trade Fevola for some top draft picks or a young midfield gun and a top 10 pick. He's little bit too Richo-like for my tastes and having a forwardline that isn't Fevolacentric might not be a bad idea. |

It's sad isn't it. For mine, he is an unreal player. Easily in the top 3 forwards of the game. Yet, he isn't playing that way at Carlton. Only really confirms what Synbad has been saying about him. With the delivery he is getting, Fevola will never become the player he is meant to be. He'd be better suited at Brisbane or West Coast, I reckon. |

Why don't we construct a midfield first? I wouldn't take anything Walls says as gospel, I'd treat it critically. FF who can kick the ball a mile have hands like he does don't come around often. We're better off trading a flanker like Houlihan - who might still garner a decent pick. He's young and he's got enough experience. Get Houlihan to deliver the ball to Fev you say. Fair point - but the point is that until we get Houlihan the ball, he's not much use. He's a Camporeale-type but younger. IMO we have so many HBF-types we can trade one of the them for a decent pick that might get us a decent KP player or a genuine midfielder with good skills and good grunt. |

Fev or Lance.. mmmm. i know who i'd keep and trade... If you could you would have to trade both. But you have to look at market value and i dont think we can get anything of worth for Whitnall. On that basis you would keep Whitnall and sign him up for under 200k a season. Fevs market value is very high , probably higher than his value to us. on that basis you trade Fev and cleanup with the talent/picks we get and more than likely money we would save. Fev is not worth 500K + for Carlton , maybe at West coast , brisbane, St kilda or Geelong he would be worth 500k + but not for us. We need more for 500K and unfortunately we wont get that from Fev in our team. |

If I was Fev I would ask to be traded to West Coast or Geelong. He would give the tonne a good shake I reckon and be an AA full forward. Matthew Lloyd was a gun in a gun team and now Essendon* are shit so is he. Fev ain't shit for us but in a good team he would be a superstar, probably better (if he isn't already) than Lloyd. If I was Pagan I would keep him. In the next 3-5 years when we are in the finals Fev will only be 27-29 - in the peak of his career. Look at teams like West Coast and Geelong, they would do anything for a true FF. Just because we pick up young kids doesn't mean in 3-5 years we will have a replacement FF. Keep the Shag! |

We have potential replacements for Fev now in Waite , Fisher , Setanta not to mention we could pick up a forward in the draft |

If we miss the priority pick this year it's a real long way back, a couple of good picks for Fevola (I doubt we'll get a trade for Whitnall) could speed things up a bit. Or course, we could speed things up and find we have no one to kick the ball to cause we traded away our gun FF. It is a conundrum .... but I think not negotiating a contact till after the end of the season to keep our options open is a good start. |

Fevola has elite talent. If the only reason we are trading him is to get draft picks we might get another Murray Vance and we have swapped a player with another 150 quality games in him for a dud. If he wants $600k per year and we don't think he deserves that, then we trade for draft picks. You never know what could happen, what if another Nick Stevens drops into our laps at year end and all of a sudden the opposition has to cover two Nick Stevens'. How much more potent does Fev become with two Nick Stevens delivering the ball to him? I do agree though that we need to be open to acquiring early draft picks, so need to listen to everything that is offered up. |

The priority Pick is great, but the above is better. Finishing bottom 2 means we have an early pick for an uncontracted senior player. This in itself will give us leverage to target name players, with the risk that the player will walk out on a club. |

I can see the merits for trading him but I want to keep Fev. He's one of the few genuine match winners in a list threadbare on talent. He's still relatively young so should be around for many more years (hopefully by our next premiership). Gun Full Forwards don't grow on trees. |

we cant afford to be paying him the money he wants 500K for what 50 - 60 goals a game ? Thats around 10k a goal . A bit steep i think. 500k with a midfield supply of a top team and 100 goals a game. 5k per goal. More worth that kind of money at another club. As for being fashionable and selling merchandise, people will buy 30 guernseys, 1 guernseys or 14 guernseys (next year) not to mention the top youngsters we get. |

I don't know about you but I'd be satisfied with that. ![]() |
