This is going to be really interesting at the end of the season who will be going especially if Gartlett,Jacobs and Joseph all do well. There could be 3 players promoted, nearly sure Jacobs and Joseph would be. This would have make us delist 3 players. The club will want at least 4 picks in the draft,so that's 7 players who could get cut.

The thing is there 7 players on the list to be cut while not cutting the youngsters. I'm sure some people will put a couple of players who just signed a 2 year contract, but i don't think they have a similar contract to like Ackland. I just can't see that happening to Fisher and Anderson.

I guess some players might want to be traded who are not getting regular games as much as they did.

It won't be that hard, there's still players on the list that don't deserve to be there and i would say enough to cover for any rookies to be promoted.

Next years cull will be interesting though, Gold Coast coming along and the instance of probably having minimum draft picks because of our hopeful position on the ladder and therefore weak position in a compromised draft we would be in the position to hold onto some players that might otherwise be stiff to be culled.

Our match committee has done a wonderful job, as it stands, on list management IMO. Especially considering from where we have come from.

This year's trading period is going to be chaos for all the clubs, we're not alone. But yes, might be difficult to let some guys go.

Guys that could be in line for the chop are

Bentick
Hartlett
Edwards
Bannister
Anderson
Fisher
oHailpin (ducks head for cover :yikes: )

I know that some of these guys will have a contract, but if there is room in the cap to do it, I think the club would pay out the contract rather than delist a required player.

The thing about the guys that I have picked is that I don't believe that they will have the capacity to get any better than they currently are, which is obviously not good enough to be in our best 22 or even 30 for the better part.

Round 3 hasn't started.

Leave this sort of talk where it belongs, in the post season.

Ummm.... the talk began after round one last year! Not having a go at you Andain, just saying there is precedence here!

Even at the start of the year I think you know which players are staring down the barrel...

The thing is, I can't think of many this year! As Rambo said the club will be looking for as many picks in the draft as possible.

It could be very interesting.

We have one thread discussing the merits of who we will drop this week as we have an abundance of riches to choose from and now we have thread discussing who we will flick in 6 months time.

The mind boggles.

Valid discussion.

Instead of all of you looking at this as a shitcan thread, look at it as a testament to the teams
depth...

Of course, anything but supreme optimism get knocked around here at TC.

Must say though it's hard to select players at the moment with not many games being played,
but there are players that would already be 'on the outer' so to speak...

...the only problem being that you can't mention their names on here without getting your ass kicked...

Every year someone starts an thread early on musing on which players might get cut at the end of the year. Every year someone replies to that thread saying "it's too early, have you no decency?! Won't someone please think of the children (ie the players)?".

I suppose people think it's unseemly or disloyal or something, apart from the fact that it is obviously a little premature. Maybe it's unusual in world sport - especially for those in Melbourne, we're so close to the club, we can go to training, we chat to the players, we know people who know people...that close connection might make some interpret their relationship with the club a little differently than a Yankees fan might. Fair enough for them I guess.

Life goes on for the players, life goes on for the fans. We go our separate ways. It's a fact of nature, like death, which I suppose we try not to think of too much either! :yikes:

Soooo, who's on the outer then?

I can’t believe people are criticising others for starting or discussing this post. Delisting players is a huge component of our game and draws a lot of interest. Talkback radio discuss it every weekend and before the year even starts. Like it or not players will be delisted at the end of the year. It gives players a motivation to do their best.

I love this discussion because a few years ago a list of 20 players would be listed as potential for being delisted. We are struggling to find 4 or 5 now.

I LOVE IT!!! We are closer to number 17 for this reason.

Noticed that the only non-injury listed Carlton players not to be in either the Blues or Bullants firsts this week are Tiller and Edwards (plus rookies Hill and Stanton). Tiller was of course picked up with a view to the long term, but Edwards would have to be under pressure to up the ante considerably this year.

I have however noticed that although he is not on the official injury list there is a comment on Bigfooty about Edwards being injured. That is news to me (and let's face it the source IS Bigfooty) but has anyone any idea about any injury to Jake?

It's the 'bubble syndrome' where people live comfortably in their own fantasy life.

Certain uncomfortable realities can be upsetting to some. Each to their own...

We have a young improving list and it certainly won't be easy managing it at seasons end. That's what I find interesting when following the bullants. Big year for the ants/blues players.

Why?

Lets face it, these are not guys in their second or third year and have not really progressed from year to year.
They will know their position, that its a make or break year for them, so why shouldn't we name them?

People need to get a grip and not be so precious, turning over the list is what makes good teams, great teams and we need to keep blooding new players that put pressure on the guys playing in the seniors. We have finally got to that point this year and you only have to look at our performances to see the improvement that competitioon for positioin plays in maintaining intensity across the team.

Why would you need to elevate players if you can retain them as 'nominated rookies'?

The same rules apply for next year so I'd say four-five to be de-listed, three-four draft picks and one elevation. Of course, any trades would throw that all out of whack.

Why? Because AFL players believe it or not have access to the internet as well. While you'd hope that players would have enough confidence in themselves to shrug things like this off some would undoubtably feel a bit depressed at the idea that three weeks into the AFL season, before the VFL season has even started, Carlton "supporters" are calling for them to be delisted.

We all know which players really need to step up this year anyway so there's no need for this thread.
