Not news...it should improve as the weeks go by...just looks to be a slow healing heel. |

There's no doubt the club realise the extent of Fev's injury to his heel. Of course, they will remain coy about it and play the media and opposition. They would know if it needs X weeks off. They are just managing it until such time we get enough wins in the season, sort out our forward line structure, or the use mid season break before resting it totally. Just hope the pain killing injections don't do him long term harm. |

I'm starting to think that after we beat the Bummers....rest Fev for the Sydney game and give him the extra time to fully rest the foot as we don't play till the Sunday against the Dogs. Fev is always going to say "Yep...I'm right" because he just wants to play no matter what but his long term value should be taken into account also. I too would hate any long term damage to be done to Fev as previously experienced by Adrian Whitehead. |

After the game yesterday when the team was heading towards the crowd he was limping. On the Channel 7 footage he was not standing on the heel in the water and was leaning on a few of the boys and was hopping out of the water. |

Does this mean if he had two good feet that he would have kicked ten goals last night! ![]() |

We keep hearing that the heel is healing but not sure it can heal if he keeps playing. Fev is not someone we can afford to play with incessant injections, so either a rest now or perhaps suffer the consequences later. |

He didn't play with injections last night. Was medicated - but not by needle. Is doing enough 'resting' during the week...will not be 'rested' against Essendon*. |

Hope the amputation doesn't go ahead until after finals. Best case scenario. |

I just don't understand, has the Carlton medical Staff offered an assurance that there are no risks involved playing him with this Injury? All I have been hearing ever since is that the Injury will improve every game and by round 3, he will be 100% this abviousley does not look like the case... he needs to be rested before he does a major Damage to it and we lose him for the year ![]() |

How can you cause major damage to a bruise? |

Post subject: | Re: Fev on Crutches Again |
I screwed up my ankle, and stretched all the ligaments spraining it coming down from a jump shot in basketball - TWICE in 2 weeks. It took close to a year, with physio - for the pain to subside. Why? Because the inflammation and damage couldn't repair as quickly because you use your feet all the time. The only way for Fev's heel to repair quickly is if he took ALL weight off it for a few weeks to a month. This obviously isn't going to happen. Instead it will probably be a hinderance for most of the year, maybe all - and managed with pain killing injections... |

Going on the above apparently we have plenty of qualified doctors posting on Talking Carlton ![]() I'm going to trust our Medical Staff on this one. They aren't going to risk our most important asset this early in the season and they know what they're doing. |

Sounds to me like he does have Plantar Fasciitis. Often called bruised heal in the footy world to simplify what it really is. Do a google image search and you will see what it is. It is where the ligaments that hold the flexy muscle type thing (the plantar)that runs along the bottom of your foot starts coming away from the heal. The ligaments get inflamed and cause pain. Often people suffering with this will jump off a table to completely break the ligament to completely heal the pain. I had this all last season and its a weird one. It hurts like hell after a game and the next day. Then it mellows during the week and with the aid of ibuprofen you can play a little sore but not too bad the following weekend. Mine took a year to heal but in a footyclub with day to day physio it should go in 6 -8 weeks. Completely stopping is not a way to heal it. At times it can get too bad and you have to miss a week. Id say fev will battle this until around mid season break unless the ligament breaks in play ( see Mitch Hahn last year). That is what we are hoping for. He will keep his fitness up running in straight lines behind closed doors with his foot taped a special way that does not allow the plantar to fully extend. In summary he will be on crutches after the next few games but dont read too much into it. He should be able to play like he has this season with this injury. That is unless it really is just a bruised heel in which case it will just get better. |

As i'm led to believe, Brendan's been cleared of any fractures or bone spurs...having not played on injections and only pain relief that you and I have in the medicine cabinet - he was bound to pull up sore. Rest until there is no more pain is the only cure...and if continued contact occurs - the fat pad giving your foot its natural cushion can get worn away. So, he's doing the right thing being off it after game time...come Saturday night - all will be well...not 100%, but better than it was. |
