Premature perhaps. But with the signing of Robbo, Garlett, Yarran and experienced blokes like Fev, Cloke and Wiggins contesting, have we solved the riddle for our forward line pressure (which as we know has been a major issue for years)? Many of us poo-pooed our lack of recruiting of new key position talent, but is it as simple as Fev and Cloke providing the contest, and our new MOSQUITO FLEET toiling to keep it in there? Will this work on all teams (can somehow see Geelong handling it better)? |

Promising, definitely But will be interesting to see when we come up against opposition who don't mind body contact. |

I thought the fwd line still looked troublesome, the young guys performed really well but we're missing a second leading forward who can kick. Wiggins and Russell are both great lead up marks, but neither can convert at this stage. Morton was good for the Tigers playing that role. I think fundamentally Wiggins and Russell are good kicks, but there's something in their routines that makes them hugely unreliable set shots. |

A Morton-esque player, with his strength in the air and range in his goal kicking, would be handy in a Blue jumper. Of course if Wiggins had kicked the gimmies and finished with 4.1 instead of 2.3, we may not have noticed so much. |

We got 6 goals from free kicks I am still a little concerned with our setup. We lack a strong marking forward and we would have to be in the bottom half in contested marks inside 50 I know Fev only kicked but lets not hope we have to rely on midfield kicking a heap of goals because when we come up against sides like the Cats, Hawks, Kangas and Saints who like the physical pressure goals from the midfield will be harder to find. No doubt come years end and we head into the draft we must surely have to pick plenty of tall timber and genuine forward prospects cause we surely lack some |

Melvey, I must admit that I was extremely dissapointed that our forwards pressure created so many goals. I mean that sort of means clubs will try and justify slogans like "They know we are coming". |

I will admit though that this approach may not work best for all teams. Teams with strong back halfs/love to flood (Cats, Hawks, Crows, Swans) won't crumble like the insipid tigers last night. But having said that, a feature of our game last night was the movement into our F50, which is key to putting these backlines under pressure too. So we'll see what happens against better opposition to be sure I guess. |

..crapola, provide full-on intensive pressure in any team's backhalf and they will crumble.. ..especially with so many teams being so bleedin' handball happy, keep on turnin' the thumbscrews and any defense will crumble.. ..even the top teams.. |

you may have noticed that on many occassions we brought the ball in to our forward line from our back half and kicked goals without the opposition even laying a tackle on us let alone getting a hand on the ball. This hasn't happened since 2001 |

Anyone else notice that Fisher and Wiggins both twirl the ball in their hands in their run-in during set shots, and they're two of the worst kicks we've got. Need to stop doing it!!! |

This hasn't happened since 2001 If you read the stats you'll find that we kicked 6 goals from free kicks and 14 goals from direct turnovers and as i mentioned many would have come from our pressure but more came from the poor skill level from the tigers |

I think it was Malcolm Blight who pointed this about Buddy and his approach. I've never understood why players do it and you see plenty of it at local level to so im thinking its just a bad habit picked up at junior level "snip" |

We kicked multiple goals against a rabble. We've found a forward formation that will work against some teams, let's see how it goes against the better teams in the comp. |

Surrounding a couple of big marking fwds Like fev and CLoke with some Kamikaze fwds who throw themselves at the opposition when they have the ball like betts Robinson Wiggins and garlett lends itself to getting a number of goals from turnovers and frees. Wig tackles hard in the last and forces the tiger to throw the ball after a contest at the top of the square. Goal. A couple of downfields or fifty's goals. Free to Robinson for tackling and creating a contest got us goal. I reckon Ratts has come up with a style of play that if we can perform week in week out we will score goals. Its a crazy plan but it just might work and it doesnt have to be about leading and marking. Perhaps its a little outside the square like the cluster and the 'handball it at all costs through the middle'. You should enjoy your footy and Carlton more Melvey. Ignore your friends who laugh at you. |

Don't forget that the player we drafted to really make us dynamic up forward hasn't kicked a ball in anger yet. The forward setup is definately still a work in progress. |
