telling healy that carlton should trade both fev and whitnall. claiming that that we couldnt win a flag in the next 4-5 years so get some young players for them. does he know how old both these blokes are????

that would make fev 28-29 and potentially at his peak? -Whitnall at 30-31 may be struggling...then again he could be EXACTLY as he is now?

Guys, Walls was suggesting we trade now - not in 4-5 years time...

This would give us some young talent to start fresh with.

that was my point, fev would only be 27 and a tripple coleman medalist.

I normally agree 100% with Walls but not on trading Fev. If we trade Fev, potentially we'll end up with more youngsters by finishing rock bottom for the next 2-3 years due to not having a single goalkicker or matchwinner in the side. The upcoming draft is considered very thin on talent according to Kevin Sheahan and inexperienced KPPs won't win you games.

JB we are a fair bloody chance of finishing on the bottom for the next two years with our current list...

Just a thought...

If we trade Fev we may be a stronger side long term but short term we'll lose out in terms of dollars. I spoke about trading Fev today to a Carlton supporter today and his response was that Fev is number one in merchandise sales at the club. Can we afford to lose our only established matchwinner when Kouta,Lappin,French and Camporeale are all near the end of the road? How many $$$ and games would we lose without a goalkicker?

You only trade Fevola if you can get more in return. Simple as that. Or if he gets greedy. Anyone that dissagrees with that is just being over emotional about it. As we now know, there is no room for sentiment in AFL any more.
What we need is a much more even contribution from our list. If trading Fevola gives us those tireless even contributers then that is worth more to us than one gun forward who cant kick goals because no one can get it to him.
Oh I know we "need" a player that we can get excited about (according to mike sheehan) and supposedly Fevola is that player. But I will trade you a team I can get excited about for a player that is exciting any day.

Fevola you keep, but it's "sayonara" for Lance.

yep, it will be interesting to see what, if anything we can get for Lance, but, I'm pretty sure that Luke will have access to his father's old number next year. As for Fev it will depend on how much he thinks he is worth. If it is too much I have no doubt we will try to do what Richmond did with Ottens... I love the Shag but it will all come down to the "Spangollies".....

Hopefully Whitnalls contract decrease will off set anything Fev signs. Provided the dollars are right, both should be retained IMO.

I'm not sure why most want Lance to be traded. The bloke has been continually played out of position this year to plug holes in our defence. As he has shown at times this year, when played in his rightful position (up forward), not only does he kick goals, but he also creates them. A couple of deft touches & body positionings has directly assisted Betts & others. In addition to this, when played up forward, he makes the oposition play a quality defender on him. Playing him down back not only takes out a scoring option for us, but it leaves an opposition quality backman on a lesser blues player.

Lance then busts his arse down back & out of position (lets face it, he's not a defender & gets exploited my more agile big men), gets some goals kicked on him & then gets bagged.

Worth having & should be retained. But on a reduced contract.

Fevola wins games and I would keep him..Lance will be worth nothing if people like Sam Newman keep taking the piss and calling him the fittest player in the AFL. You would have to look at trading both Whitnall and Campo if you could....

As much as I'd prefer we didn't trade Lance, I think a club like Brisbane might be interested in him. If the Lions had him up forward with Brown this would enable Bradshaw to go back and really strengthen their half back line. I think the warmer weather would also aid Lances flexibility somewhat and assist in weight management which has been a problem for him traditionally.

Yes, he could stick to the tropical juices up there.

His fair complexion wouldn't go to well in the Queensland sun though.

And as if Brisbane would bother with someone that has a such a shithouse work ethic.

The Lions would love to have Lance, he would be the perfect foil for Brown and would provide them the opportunity of playing Bradshaw as either the third marking option up forward or as an extra tall down back - another big body is what they need to replace Lynch

Having said that I don't think Lance should be hung out to dry for what has been or not been happening over the course of the season. He is is not a specialist backman and simply cannot be expected to take a leading forward like he has been. IMHO his season has been stuffed because of Livo not being available, T-Bird taking a long time to get back into match conditioning, and Karl just dropping the ball completely.

Lance does his best work down back when he floats back to help out and then he is able to make decisive passes to Carlton's advantage  that sets up a chance at goal.

Likewise in attack he is not going to take a pack mark but he knows how to create space and to position himself in man-on-man contests. Again to get the best contribution from Lance we need to have another marking option up forward. Morrell provided this during the Wizzie Cup but one of the major issues (apart from his efforts on Saturday) was that ADL just wasn't making the impact he should given his size.

Personally I will reserve judgement on Lance once we have Livo back and Fish in the side - at that point he will have no excuses for not performing.
