A few posters have expressed a view that we might see 4 New Blues take the field in Round 1, 2009, in Yarran, Jacobs, Joseph and Robinson.

Can anyone recall this happening before?

As you search your memories, we would highlight Round 1, 2004, as an exception given of the 9 debutants to Carlton, only 2 were new to football, with 7 players taking the field for their Carlton debut (i.e. played at another AFL Club).

I reckon in 1992 we had at least 4 debutants in Round 1 versus Brisbane:

Ron De Iulio, Stephen Oliver  (could have been anything), Paul McCormack and Brett Sholl

and we had 2 that had played AFL before but debuted for their first game for Carlton in Earl Spalding and Mark Athorn - making 6 players who made their debuts in a Carlton Jumper.

Yep who did his knee when he got his first possession which was a mark on the boundary line on half forward flank, members side of VFL Park Wellington Road end.

Bernie Evans played his first game for us that day as well - but Motley did not play that day.

Ah it's a sharp crowd here at TalkingCarlton. Agro gets it for Round 1, 1992, which had 4 AFL debuts and 2 Carlton debuts:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... 90+to+1994

This was the most recent, but as per other posters in this thread, there are other precedents for this.

And if it wasnt for Ian Collins we would have had 7 making their debut that day - as AFL Football Operations Manager he had de-registered Greg Williams for certain irregularities that he had engineered himself.

Following on from Riley's press reports and the Carlton v Richmond thread, then it appears confirmed that for the first time in 17 seasons Carlton will enter a game with 4 debut players.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... 90+to+1994

5 Carlton debuts overall is the biggest over the same period, and with Yarran and Warnock to come later in the year, we're already set for an above average year for debuts.

Whats really exciting is that 3 of those debuts are from the rookie list.

Well done to WH and crew!!

I am so happy to read that Melvey.

There's a lot to be excited about with our new debutants.

Furthermore there's only a couple of slower types on the field tomorrow: Cloke and Jacobs. The great thing for us in 2009 is when the depth players (we seem to have in 2009) can stand up, those 2 will be overtaken this year imo, and then we'll all be happy to have a super fast, tall, talented, and mobile 22 on every line.

A big run home in the second half of the season?

Flag?

Im not getting to ahead of myself but it is exciting to see a different looking and youthful Carlton team take the field tomorrow night. No matter the result tomorrow night (which im nervous about) no doubt in 09 we are about to 'prove' to the football football that we will not be kicked around

Round 1 1984 v North Melbourne

Carlton had five debutants - Tom Alvin, Wayne Blackwell, David Honybun, Fraser Murphy and Warren Ralph. Blues won by 137 points and Ralph booted 9.
