Apologies if this is a re-hash, but I couldn't find another thread about it.

The comment that stood out the most for me was his take on ROK. Said “We’re stoked with Rhys and he’ll be a very good player for a long time”.

Also thinks JR is on the cusp of becoming a very good player.

Ones I found interesting...

Quote:
SENIOR LIST
Dennis Armfield
Dennis’ last two games in the NAB Cup were promising as a smaller defender and running through the midfield. Our expectation is that he become a regular player this season and to do that he needs to work at being a more consistent kicker.

Setanta O'hAilpin
He had a well-publicised pre-season blow-up, but he's fighting his way back from that and is training hard. We'll persist with him as a tall defender and consistent footy back at VFL level is the key for him.

Rhys O'Keeffe
He's a powerfully built kid and we've been happy with his early work on the track. He's a fantastic deep kick off his left, but he just needs to work on his passing and inside work. We're stoked with Rhys and he'll be a very good player for a long time.

Jordan Russell
He played a fantastic team role for us last year and is on the cusp of becoming a very good player. He's done a lot of work and he's got all the tools.

Might want to trim the quote so carltonfc.com.au gets the clicks.

Was impressed by this article, and pleased to hear a few terms that just don't crop up in the public domain enough, like pattern-running.

Wouldnt have thought that Matty would need any more help to get to any more contests.

I could be a little short-sighted, but that to me seems like the best footy read I have got from Carlton, ever! Fantastic transparency. No big-noting or demeaning comments. Well done Mark Riley and Carlton. Brilliant! :thanks:

Funnily enough, all it would take is the words 'Caroline Wilson' at the top of the page for the article to be denigrated and smashed with words such as 'tabloid', 'typical suck job', 'tripe', 'usual crap you'd expect', and so on... :donk:

Ummm. No it wouldn't.

If Caroline Wilson wrote the article it would be full of:
(a) unsubstantiated rumour;
(b) "unnamed sources";
(c) some tenuous link to an otherwise unrelated scandal or other beef of hers; and
(d) some mention of how the Tigers are superior.

Caroline Wilson is nothing more than a gossip columist for football. She should be writing in the Confidential pages of the Herald-Sun, such is her credibility. She has never written an insightful football related article.

My favourite one

Steven Browne
Brownie is like a race horse in that he does his best work on a Saturday afternoon, but not so much during the week despite training really hard. He's very versatile and courageous. We were stoked with his performance in the NAB Cup semi which was his first hitout. Needs to work on his ground ball handling and 'depth' kicking.

haha

crap on the track, great in games!

better than the other way round!

Quote:
Chris Yarran
Chris is getting fitter, but it is a long way from Swan Districts fitness to AFL fitness. He's got exquisite skills, but he just needs to work at adapting to the intensity of both training and matches. He's still young and we'll give him plenty of time, but he will add a real exciting dimension to our forward line.

Obviously Chris isnt at the fitness the club expects and seems to indicate his workrate on the training track disappoints also. Thats probably why the talk is of garlett being in contention for Thurs rather than yarran. Its good to see that despite being a low draft pick, he needs to earn his spot

How good is this Riley bloke ! I love listening to him talk about the players. He sounds great at educating the players not to mention educating me.

Great get for the club i reckon.

It was interesting to have a look at this and see how the players have gone with the areas that Riley identified that they needed to work on. It has only been 3 months, but it gives a nice little development snapshot/baseline.

Setanta's was interesting - They were going to develop him as a defender, but have now obviously decided that he will work as a forward. Our other defenders standing up have probably contributed to that, as much as our forward line issues.

Hammer seems to be the one who has worked on his area to the best effect - 'game sense'. Of course, he is not there yet, but is improving every month.

Joseph - Mentioned his kicking on the run which I think has improved. He seems more confident now when he gets the ball and is willing to charge off on a run and kick us forward, of course still needs some work but is getting better and better. He is really going to be a player for us.

Murph too - Riley mentioned that he'd been working on his defensive pressure, and some of his efforts there have been really good.

It was a great read and I'm hoping that Riley brings out another one of these before the end of the year.

a handful of people i speak to have made mention that they think riley is the brains behind carlton, helping ratten learn on the job so to speak. . .ratts threw his name out as a candidate for richmond etc so its no coincidence that he's being given so much praise after reading that article.

Nah, we need Synbad as an assistant so we can get the players waltzing through the opposition defence.
