Coming up to his 5th Birthday and needs a new Carlton Jumper - he wants a sleeveless which his grandmother is having conniptions over- but I digress.

Cutting to the chase he wants number 12 on his jumper because he "wants to have one of the new players"

I an slightly uncomfortable with this and I am trying to push for the 'safer' options of 5, 4, 25, 8.

Can I trust that a number 12 will be a good investment for the future wearing of the jumper to games.

Does anyone have any horror stories about getting a number that turned out to be a bit embarrassing or didn't live up to the promise?

Back in the early to mid 80's (post Fitzy) I was desperate to have number 3 on my back

Hi DN...have just lived through this phase...aged 7 and 10
Tell Gran (worried about cold?) that sleeveless is the way to go...why?...because he can pull it over all the other clothes he's wearing...and they eventually do.

7 year old (at 5) wanted number 43....nothing wrong with that until you realise that "He" will retire soon and the jumper will be rested for at least a year and then I will be up for a new jumper when he doesn't want to wear it anymore and grows out of it...
Convinced him that
a) he is skinny and little - AB, KS, EB,
b) tough as blazes with dark hair - KS, EB
c) Looks like Simmo - KS

Number needs to be no 6.....aalso told him that Simmo was related to the Simpsons - he bought it and has loved Simmo and No 6 ever since.

The 10 year old grew up on a diet of that freebie AFL DVD "Memorable moments" so it was always "Jesaulenko you beauty!"...also loved Fev so the No 25 was easy

Nah, got close...years ago someone bought me a signed Card of Adam Chatfield as a gift (obviously cheap!)...irony is it is probably very collectible and I have no idea where it is!

edit...BTW nothing wrong with number 12

Everyone's got 5 and 25. Boring. If I had to go for one of the safe ones, I'd pick 4 not just because Gibbs is going to be our next captain, but because 4 was worn by our last premiership captain and it just has a nice cross-generational thing to it.

Otherwise yeah, I'd go for Robbo. But then, I had Harmes on my back as a kid, so I like burst players.

I got number 5 on my guernsey and getting number 12 put on my away guernsey tomorrow. The kid looks the goods, i'd say it's a safe number to put on.

Not a horror story by any means but one where my son had a certain number for 2 years, cried when the player was traded but the tears turned to tears of joy when the nymber was re-assigned. Needless to say he kept it!

As much as you all know that I would love 34 my son hasn't quite developed his sense of irony (and he has two eyes that work)

#12 will be a good choice. Robbo has a big future ahead of him

When I was a young-un, I had #7 on my jumper. Was a HUGE Dominator fan. It took me a while to warm to Rat's but became a huge fan of his as well.

I just baught one of those heratige jumpers two years ago. I decided to go with the new bloke in Murph = #3. I was going to go with the traditional #7 but I am not a fan of AB's.

My 2 cents.

I won Tom Alvins 1992 round 21 jumper, still bring it our for big games, but 31 has been pretty average since.
