Nick Stevens, Carlton, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Nick Suban, Fremantle, during the third quarter of the NAB Challenge match between Carlton and Fremantle, played at Bunbury on Saturday March 14, 2009.
In summary, his previous poor record and existing carry-over points from within the last 12 months means he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 137.50 points. He has also has 68.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 206.25 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 154.69 points and a one-match sanction.
Other Incidents Assessed:
The match day report laid against Carlton's Simon Wiggins for engaging in rough conduct against Fremantle's Greg Broughton was assessed. It was the view of the panel that Wiggins initiated his tackle while Broughton was in possession of the ball and would not have been able to see the ball spill free. No high contact was made with the ground and the tackle by the Carlton player was a single motion and not two separate actions. Therefore no further action was required.

When did Stevens get reported?

None of the articles from the game said anything about him being in trouble.

If there’s no footage, would we contest?

There's a few young blues breathing down Stevens' neck desperate for a senior berth. Maybe Nick can sense the pressure and is getting frustrated.

Just saw footage of the Steven's strike and there is no way he will get out of it .................. Pretty stupid hit off the ball in a practice match. Hope he gets a blasting from Ratts and the Leadership Group !!!!!!!!!

We're talking about Freo here... they play dirty EVERY time we play them. I bet Nick got frustrated with seeing his team mates getting sniped.

Although you'd always like to have your best 22 available, I'm actually not too bothered about this. It gives a young player (perhaps Browne or Joey) a chance early in the season that they might not have otherwise received.

Assuming Stevo takes the one match ban, he'll be available for Carlton in Round 3 (April 12). But given that he'll probably have gone about a month without a game by then (unless he gets permission to play in one of the remaining VFL practice matches), I wonder if he might have to line up for the Bullants that weekend (vs Bendigo @ Visy)?

You'd expect him to be underdone, and if the Carlton side is doing OK (fingers crossed!), he might find himself playing in a very un-flattering red jumper that weekend...

You can't seriously think Stevens may be left out...

..on one hand, v.silly gettin' suspended from a praccy game.. ..on the other hand, good on him.. ..our leaders need to lead, and in my opinion show some mongrel.. ..naturally, we'd prefer they do it more 'legally' (or sneakily) but i'm v.tired of teams pushing us around, walking all over us and physically intimidating us.. ..it's been yrs.. ..like stevo, i've had enough too..

an inexplicably and frustatingly stupid act

a brilliantly talented footballer who has let some shocking habits creep into his game during the dark years (mainly a lack of discipline).

we need him back and firing asap hopefully - he is elite when he is in the right frame of mind.

on a side note, hilarious that he thought of himself as captaincy material. But that's actually irrelevant - he is in our top 5 players and we need him back.
