A healthy scoreline, but not a great performance really. Very happy with the win, don't get me wrong, we were just a bit rusty at times. In reality we're lucky they had Brown and Fev out. Still, you can only beat who is on the park and a 55pt win will do thanks very much.

YARRAN>RICH

HENDERSON>FEVOLA

RATTEN>VOSS

Few cobwebs blown out early, not good footy to watch but the lions flooded and flooded.

Nice to rub Voss nose in it.

wasnt pretty in the 1st but better thereafter.

Yarran is class. Eddie is the best. Smurph is gold.

I hate the umpires. 50m decisions were [REDACTED].

Yep - good win. Shocking first quarter before it improved out of sight. I would expect a few teams will be slightly rusty after the break before they get into gear.

We still have half a dozen on our list who a) aren't up to it and/or b) struggle with the pace and processes of football at senior level. Will go easy on Grigg and Hampson - but they have Lucas and Warnock breathing down their backs and they'd want to lift their work rate next week.

Take the 4 points and move on.

Umpiring doesn't get any better.
Nor does commentary.

Our back 6 seriously lacks some class - Jamo looks better when he takes the game on, Thornton, well, was he out there? Joseph is lucky he matches up on the pests, and Walker's disposal doesn't get any better. Russell should never kick in again.

QFT. If Lucas can't slot into our best 'back 6' with his poise, pace and skill then we're not fair dinkum.

All hail appleguts. 10pm in Melbourne and i'm off to bed.

That's more the "regain confidence and get back on the winning list" type game more so than clinically thump them. You can see the confidence was way down for much of the first half after a tough couple of weeks. This type of game gave us a chance to sort it all out allowing us to be all the better next time. Hawthorn ended their 6 game losing streak with an awful 3pt win over Richmond. 6 games later they still haven't lost.

How in blazes does the AFL expect to sell this product to Rugby League followers if no-one can explain the rules to them from week to week?

That was one of the most insipid umpiring performances of the year.

Zero consistency between games.

With that out of the way nice win Blues.
Kinda feels like we've turned the corner with that one.

Ordinary performance, i think if we were playing any other team in the comp we would have got rolled tonight. Russell, Walker, Ohalipin & Armfield are shadows of there early season form. Still not enough help for Judd in the guts.

Postives were Betts continued good form, Henderson tried hard and serviceable games from the likes of Scotland, Simpson & Murphy.

Where is Bret Thornton at? Struggled tonight and his future looks bleak.

blues haven't turned any corners with that win.

that performance was disgraceful.....surely there was something wrong with the ball.

the umpiring (as bad as it was), was 'better' than the clanger rate = +100 for the night......we have more work to do than the umpires!!!

Hey guys I have been at work and as usual, had the Game tracker from the AFL website on the go.

Who was good?
Hammer seemed to go into minus on the DT system.

Your opinions are useful to me.

Penny for your thoughts?

those people screaming and screaming for grigg and hammer's inclusion perhaps were a shade off the mark, grigga looked lost!

secondly those who made the early call last year that we got it so wrong with yarran, comparing him to rich, just look at tonight!

the 4 points is all we needed, and we got them. pretty or not we did enough!

Easy win. As expected. Suck it up you folks who thought we'd win by 150. Just because you overestimated by 100 points doesn't mean we have to hear you whinge and whinge and whinge. You got it wrong. Live with it, okay?

Well done Bluebaggers. You've done us proud.

A win as expected.....with or without Brown & Fev.

Expected cobwebs, but fresh legs.

I'll air the following thoughts for the first time:
I have my doubts with Jamison. As usual he leaks a lot of goals, and clangers. Thornton league imo.
Grigg was all pace and aggression but the game has left his skills behind him.
Walker, Russell, Joseph and Carrazzo suffer from lack of footy nous at times; in the direction of the Setanta bucket too (sorry to say).
Maybe it was the pressure. I didn't like it one bit. Lets put it down to post break cobwebs.

The whole team are still not in sync, nor were they turned on at the start.
The 1stQ was seriously a sign of disrespect (towards the club, team and coach) and perhaps cobwebs.
They should have been hanging out to take it out on the opposition. Especialy this mob (ref: last years final)
They should have been playing for their spots.

That's from the armchair.

Geez Henderson and Setanta worked hard as the 2 big towers...mobile at that.
The Helpers were fast, very fast and dangerous.
The forwardline mix is good. Just needs to be onsong to perform. Consistency is questionable.

Gibbs was rusty imo. Hasn't imposed himself on a game despite big tats....imo.

Murphy looked the most dangerous.
Judd was the most effective on the ground.
Man, the pressure this guy absorbs for the team makes life so easy for the others.

Don't know what Thornton's role was. He was quiet, courageous at times.

Missed Bower to straighten us up through the guts with guts and pace; coz Walker didn't. Nor did Russell.
Don't get me wrong Russell was good. Not Tex. Have high expectations. Will improve on this game.

Murphy, Judd, Yarran, Hendo, Judd, Simmo, Scotland, Houlihan Garlett and Betts...and Gibbs are all class.

Gibbs was a bit so and so tonight imo. Room for improvement. Still class & poise in buckets.
We needed one more class midfielder to stand up tonight. I don't think it's McLean, Hadley but might be Lucas.
Armfield's pace through the guts was a good way to break the lines, but you can only do that so often.
WE missed Bower, Kreuzer and Waite.

Great to win by 10 goals (sorta), but I did expect to see better skills and team cohesion. 6/10.

Moving forward, we have to plan for a team without Carrazzo, Scotland, Houlihan...even Waite.
Age is going to catch up with them, (and probably it is subtly).
Setanta is there till someone takes his spot: probably Waite.
WE still need more midfield stars in the guts....Lucas?
Joseph made a couple of courageous runs in the 1stQ, but went missing.
I reckon he needs to impose himself more.

The consolation is that in the wings we've got Kreuzer, Warnock, Austin, Bower, White, Lucas.
We've got holes, but if all the current players stay fit and lift a few notches (to finals intensity) and improve their form and cohesion, we can be succeessful in 2010.

Big ask. I've got money riding on it....first time I'm having doubts.....I keep saying, it's the 1st game back.

Go Bluebaggers

need to give grigg and hammo another week....it is simply a massive jump from the ants to the blues...and it does take some getting used to. the only worrying sign was that despite promising bullants reports, it doesn't seem like Hammo has learnt to catch !

thought our back 6 were quite shaky...can't quite remember when jamo was beaten so regularly...and both aw and rusty sprayed it around a bit !

By the way, I now know what has happenned to Bower's quad....B Thornton keeps kicking it at training because it is the only way he keeps getting a game !!!!!

On a positive, Yarran get's me excited...if he can build a fitness base...he could be anything !

And Hendo looks a player...though would like to see him leading up a bit more rather than always pointing for it over the back.

All, in all, that was fools gold.....playing a team who are currently the worst in the afl missing key players.

defer all judgements to next sunday evening

What a shocking first quarter, obviously rusty, seriously rusty.

The umpires were deplorable, unsure as to what statement they were sending? Maybe proving to soccer hatErs how soft AFL is also at times

At least we got back to a decent level of intensity and better ball movement as the game went on.

AJ defensively wasn't too good, but attacking wise played a good game.

Hammer will need to improve on that effort.

Yarran is just on another level to anyone the way he moves.

A good win in the end.

I thought Carazzo was back to his brilliant best - absolutely murdered Rich. Houlihan did a reasonable job on TJ. Betts was great, Garlett was great, and Scotland was probably BOG with Juddy.
