Never one for wanting to give Carlton TOOOO much credit, the Hun has again cheapened a Carlton win. Ok, granted it's the pre-season competition - and maybe I am reading into it a little too closely... but check this: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,25124320-19742,00.html Full strength Blues beat depeleted Hawks Quote: Carlton will never get a better shot at Hawthorn, which rested nine premiership players and lost two more, Campbell Brown and Stephen Gilham, before halftime. Full-strength? Ok, the Hawks were missing quite a few players... but now let's check this: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,25124319-19742,00.html Hawthorn has lost three more players to injury Quote: Carlton was missing Andrew Walker, Andrew Carrazzo, Heath Scotland, Robert Warnock, Chris Yarran, Simon Wiggins and Matthew Kreuzer. Ahh the full strength Blues. Just missing a couple of hacks that would struggle to make it into the side. ![]() Arguments could be made for every one of those players being in our best 22. Some don't need arguments made at all. I'll tell you right now, at least 5 or 6 of those guys will be a part of our next premiership squad. But I mean hey, the headline is probably a lot more palatable for some than one like: "Carlton, missing one thirds of their best 18 - still comfortably beats last years premiers". Amiright?! ![]() |

I'll give Tassie Buddy and Hodge, but the others missing are average. Just players who were lucky to be in the right team at the right time. The Des Hedland effect.... |

Melvey wrote: Sorry mate but i see nothing with what they wrote. We come up against the box hill hawks and just got over the line So 12 Premiership players + Taylor is a reserves team? Only 20 Premiership players could of possible played you realise? Of course Hawthorn are a better team than us currently, but to say we played a reserves team is wrong. You also need to check history as to how teams change once they won a Premiership, a group of players like Thorp, Dowler, Tuck, McGlynn, Kennedy could be regulars this year replacing some of those who didn't play yesterday. |

Melvey, I was mainly relating to the fact that Carlton are 'full strength' against a Premiership side quoted as 'depleted' when whilst all they are really missing from close to a full side is Buddy and Hodge (wonder how many Roughhead would have kicked if Franklin was playing?) - whereas Carlton, missing: Kruezer (Pick #1) Carrotts (B&F winner) Walker (Pick #2) Scotland (2nd in B&F - 2007) Warnock (206) Yarran (Pick #6) and the Wiggler (straight out champion)... is considered 'full strength'. Pfft. |

Pfft. out of those i'd give you Walker, Kruez and scotto |

As crappy and lazy as that article is, you have to give the HUN this: Quote: To dwell on the Hawks' dwindling player numbers would be an injustice to the Blues' ability to overcome a ragged start and eventually coast to a 24-point win. That's the third para of that article. |

It's just the usual no balls commentry from the media. Anyone who has their name in record for all to see/hear will go the safe route everytime. It is the reason we always hear the same boring comments from these guys, and if you were to write off the current premiers or talk up the new up and coming team then more than likely you will have it come back on you. I reckon it's also some of the reason that the so called top teams get a fair run with the umps as well. |
