Plethora of first round picks - particularly gibbs kreuz murphy running around but real quality picked up in the last few years with 2nd and in a way picking first round picks is relatively easy particularly when you get first pick -the second and third much more difficult Grigg who I thought was sensational last night bower who keeps getting better and Robinson is likely to follow in footsteps of the other two -hopefully hampson will be another of those |

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing whjen we were absolutely towelling the Nth pooftahs. It is all well and good for Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy et all to be absolute gusn, but continuing to get the horn over Simpson, Jammo, Bower Power, Anderson etc. Great work!!!!!!!!! |

The complete neglect of recruiting between 1995 and 2001, then the penalties, gave us years of grief. Getting our act together with recruiting is giving us the strong list we need. I reckon it must be really tough trying to project if footy could be played completely differently in 4 - 5 years, and having players that are adaptable, and smart enough to deal with whatever game plans, strategies, rule changes may occur. |

 I was messing around after reading Franks post. I have taken the 2006 draft and assessed how the selections have performed after 2 full seasons. Not alot of time but I guess enough for those seeking instant gratification, and there are plenty of those here on TC Plenty have had serious injuries that have really halted there careers. I think the biggest disappointment has probably been Hansen and he looked out of sorts again on Saturday night. The really big guys like Leuy and Hampson will obviously take longer for the roles they play. The top 6 have performed very well and their good form and few injuries have given them regular game time. As we all know Grigga certainly deserves to be right up there and that was a great selection from WH. Regards Cazzesman |

 Here's my 2005 rankings. I might be bias with Murph but considering the role he played, the crap team he was in and the pressure he was under pre injury you couldn't have asked much more from him. Birchall is the obvious standout for me with his 2007 premiership the icing on the cake. The biggest disappointments have been Beau and JON. Once again plenty of serious injuries in that lot. That's where Selwood and Gibbs have been such a bonus because they have remained fit and able to play every week. Durable players are like gold dust. Regards Cazzesman |

Birchall is a fantastic player. I have no problem with him at 1. Murphy still needs to improve in a number of areas. He has suffered for being in a poor side. The real bonus has been getting guys like Browne at 36 and Robinson at 40. Even though I believe they should of been picked earlier to get them with these picks was incredible. Guys like Bower, Grigg, OKeefe, Tiller will be good players. The best picks will be Gartlett, Jacobs, Jamison, Thornton, Bentick, Carrazzo who were all rookies. Even Betts was picked up in the PSD. Yarran will be interesting. IMO Top 10 player no doubt. I had them ranked 1. Hartlett 2. Vickery 3. Rich 4. Ziebell 5. Watts 6. Yarran 7. Natinui 8. Hurley 9. Sidebottom 10. Hill. Thought we might have missed an opportunity with Vickery and Zeibell still available at 6! |

although different styles of players, the biggest difference is that Birchall's kicking is exceptional, whereas Murph's kicking lets him down at times, in particular when kicking at goal. Murph on the other hand is far more creative in general play. At the end of the day I think Murph will prove to be a more valuable player to Carlton than Birchall is to Hawthorn, and will be a more valuable player to Carlton than Birchall would have been to Carlton. I love Murph.... gun. Just nail those goals, son!!! |

Like the assessment of Jack Riewoldt Cazz. Might not have quite the read of the flight, the zip off the mark or the tank that his cousin has, but he does have a better kicking action, agility and a huge bag of tricks, which in my book will make him a more damaging forward than Nick will ever be. Would have loved the opportunity to pick him up back in that draft. |

...don't agree with the Jack Riewoldt assessment there Jimmae- Nick Riewoldt is a fantastic footballer...his cousin will be just a half-forward flanker. Cameron Croad with a better work ethic. They're good lists Cazzesman...of all the footballers on these lists - the ones that I expect to take the next step this year are Mitch Clark, Travis Varcoe and Shaun Grigg, the latter who looks like he will have a profound influence on our ladder position this season. |

Interesting list Caz. Must say I wouldn't have Jetta or Hislop (delisted) as high as you and would probably have Leunberger a bit higher. As you stated injuries have hampered the progress of a number of players. |

I'd have Shaun Higgins ahead of Nathan Jones for the future because he can kick. Only Murphy has his disposal questioned by the media and supporters.  The Demons manchild came into the game with a great fitness base and stepped up to AFL straight away. Higgins has more upside if he can get over his injuries... Higgins looked sharp and poised in the middle with 22 touches against the Bombers. |

Jones very unlucky in those rankings, has done very very well in a super crap team. 1000-1 odds for the brownlow are tempting given he is the prototype brownlow winning player for one of the 16 AFL teams. |

Jones in a crap side has done more than enough but not as much as those above and those that made a Premiership team. Regards Cazzesman |
