This article indicates the depth of research by footy journalists esp the Hun.
Yes Jon, Jamison does look a 10 year FB and yes the club does have high hopes for Austin and yes maybe Thornton can pich hit on talls. Are you forgetting someone??
I would think the club is basing their defence for the next 5 years on the basis that Bower is a key defender. Maybe not a big deal to miss him but I hate that sort of sloppiness in an article where the guy is passing himself off as knowledgeable

I think this is a bit of a nothing article. He does not really tell us anything we don't already know, and I suppose thats a bit of the norm for the HUN. Nothing groundbreaking is par for the course with their sports writing in general.

I liked how Waite pumped Austin up though. Its a massive year for young Mark. I have high hopes that he will really step up and cement a place in our backline.

Just some column filler fluff from the HUN - poorly researched and just written off the top of the head by the reporter.

In 2005 - the call would have gone out from the SPORTS EDITOR - "Reporters, we need a few paragraphs to fill out the back pages - give me a few puff pieces" - response from Reporter X - go through the Collingwood file that should get me a by line as the Editor always prints the Collingwwood shit.

In 2008 - same call from the SPORTS EDITOR - elicits a CARLTON response from same reporters.

We are back in the frame chaps.

And dont worry about Bower.

He can stay under the radar for the first 6 or 7 rounds of the season - then you will get Healy and Russell talking with mock amazement on a Monday Night after Round 8 - how Bower has roared into All-Australian contention, overnight success and where did he come from.
