Its really hard to pick things like future coaches because theres just so many variables that can translate into a very large number of different world lines. - that is a line of events through time that creates the world that you and I experience. Theres multiple worldlines I think, not just one. However we only experience one worldline within our small slice of permitted reality What one can definately say is that a fair judgement can be made of the future based on the worldline that we appear to be on right now. Future choices and therefore our worldline can also be chosen on the basis of the need to fulfil feelings that sit deep within our subconscious mind. Sometimes these feelings can be quite strong and very influential. Being a fanatical Carlton supporter for an extended period of ones early life would certainly form strong feelings like this. These feelings that might lie dormant for many years, they can be masked and ignored but ultimately they cry out for fulfilment and expression. I am very interested in the worldline for Carlton at the moment. Because despite all our problems and football sins, we are a blessed club, but at present doing time for what was percieved by others as a major transgression. Cruel, vindictive men chose to harshly and severely punish us at a time of major vulnerability, based on what they suspected and wanted us guilty of rather than very much in the way of hard evidence. Ultimately though they acted out of a sense of wicked jealousy. It will do them no good though, because we will endure and they will have cause to be jealous again. Our plight is one of kind of biblical proportions. A bit like emerging from the wilderness, but not after 40 years, it will be shorter than that for us. Teams like Collingwood emerge from a 40 year wilderness, triumph briefly and then promptly gets lost again. Looking at the big picture, they walk around criss crossing their own tracks in a vain effort to find a way out. I dont think that we will be anywhere near so long in the desert and we will find a way out. Despite our present worries, I think we do have a good plan. Pagan puts in all the hard work, and it will indeed be a lot of hard work from here. There will be difficulties on the way, but he has and will put the blocks into place and is working to a methodical plan. He will endure a great deal of pain in this process as we all will, but its the post Pagan period that I think will be the one which bears the fruit of his toil. It is the new young coach that reaps the harvest. I first thought Brett Ratten might be the man after Pagan, but now I dont think so. Carey might be a candidate too, but Voss - now there is an interesting name with an aura that shines - he could be the 'young coach' that is chosen. He's certainly got an strong aura about him, and as the Sunday Age article said - he was a fanatical Carlton supporter in his youth. He spoke so very deeply about what it meant to play at Princes Park even though he wasnt a Carlton player at the time. Maybe even if he doesnt know it himself yet, but perhaps there is a sense of unfinished business for Michael in that particular area. Such thoughts might not be always apparent, but they may heavily influence the choices he makes on his football worldline. This is why Ive got a bit of a positive vibe about him, this coupled with the sense that I would think that he might be a man who would like the idea of coaching. In addition, if he chose this path of afl coaching, one would think that it would be likely that the Carlton board would see him as a very worthy candidate. All told, I think our draft penalties will end up costing us about 5 or even 6 years in the wilderness. At the time of our wizzer cup win, the events as I felt they might turn out were going to be substantially different to what I originally thought. However now I have seen through this very brief mirage, I think that they will come to fruition as I originally envisaged. The 2005 wizzer win was a fleeting moment of pleasure in the middle of a very barren time for us. Take it as that and savour it as a man would savour water after walking in a hot dry desert. It might be a while before we get another drink like this I am 47 this year, and I think I will be around 50 or 51 when I see another Carlton flag or serious tilt at the finals, and it will be with a new coach who is a relatively young man. This can all turn out to be a load of total crap of course, but there are times when we need something to hang on to when we are in the dark and have trouble finding our way. If it serves this purpose alone, then it is worthwhile. |

Brisbane is the modern day Melbourne. Leigh Mathews is the modern day Norm Smith. Michael Voss is the modern day Ron Barassi. The Carlton Football Club has the oppurtunity to repeat history.Michael Voss is the one,and the only one.Whatever it takes, GET HIM. |

I aggree Voss would be a good candidate, but would have to sign him up as an assistant for a couple of years! Voss, as it stands, has at least 3 years of footy left in him. Now let's say that when he retires, we give him an assistant role or similar, he would need to proove he has what it takes as a caoch for 2 or 3 years. So let's say Voss IS our next coach....................it'll be at least 6 or 7 years before we see him in the coachhes box! Gary O'Donnell? Gary Lyon? I tell you one thing about Gary Lyon...........................he can and will attract some big name stars to which ever club he coaches. Judd loves him! |

I thought Voss's knee was pretty much stuffed and there wasnt much they could do to fix it. |
