Story about the Fev becoming a leader

Poor old Fev. Up to this point, he hasn't really demonstrated leadership skills consistently on field. We are not privy to what happens off and we know that Fev is great with supporters. Will be interested to know more.

I still reckon Fev has many natural leadership tendencies, and with the right mentorship, would be a valuable on and off field leader.

But the same thing applies as would apply to drug addicts or alcoholics. A mentor doesn't help unless the guy wants to change. I'm sure he's been surrounded by many good mentors over the years, and I'm sure he's ignored much of the advice. If and when the penny drops, he could be a great leader and would be quite inspirational. But I wouldn't be betting that it's happened already or that it'll happen soon.

Pratt's reference to poker-playing is a sign that Fev runs his own race. Although poker's perfectly legal and many guys love to play it recreationally, I'm sure that Pratty thinks that Fev has the type of personality that might not handle it well, and poker may well affect Fev and his football adversely. You'd have to think Pratty's had a quiet word with him, but Fev's kept on with it regardless. Making the comment publicly might have just been to add colour to the story, or it might have been a sign of frustration that his advice had been ignored. Now, I would have thought that Pratt would be about the best mentor you could possibly have when it comes to achieving success and retaining wealth (and Fev should be able to set himself up for life over the next few years and wouldn't want to rely upon his ability to earn big bucks after his footy finishes). But even Pratt can only do so much.

I agree he has natural leadership tendencies. He also has natural self-destruct tendencies which is the major worry...

Fev seems to me to be a character whose actions are spontaneous; he gets an urge for the moment and goes for it.

He's done nothing malicious, but some find what he does uncomfortable.

On the footy field Fev is spontaneous too. He can turn a game in a quarter.

What about what he told the Doggies runner last year: something like 'get a good seat here comes the Fev show' and then he kicks 7 or 8 in the second half.

Does that make him a leader?

I think he's a senior player and a match winner, and I'm sure the kids look up to him because of what he's achieved on the footy field, but also for his jovial funny loving embracing style.

If the kids at Carlton look up to him, then he is a leader for them, so that makes him a leader doesn't it?

Perhaps he should tell them when he's about to do something silly.."this is what you shouldn't do"...but then that would be premeditated not spontaneous.

I doubt Fev will ever lose the child qualities that are part of his make up.

I really dig him as a Carltonian, a footballer and as a person.

Kick a ton in 2009 Fev!!!

I agree, but the X-factor is when will he grow up, and start developing those skills more....

suggests poor emotional intelligence - which generally makes for poor leadership. A very charismatic person though which is why many kids/younger players might look up to him. That doesnt necessarily make him a good leader.
