Here's an off-season challenge....

Like a lot of supporters I have been watching the Blues (with great reward) since the 60's. The Carlton Team of the Century didn't make a lot of sense to me because I never witnessed 9 of the players listed. So here's a task... using the CTOTC as a basis, what would the best Carlton team witnessed since 1968?

B: AVAILABLE Stephen Silvagni Geoff Southby
HB: AVAILABLE AVAILABLE Bruce Doull
C: Garry Crane Greg Williams Craig Bradley
HF: Wayne Johnston Stephen Kernahan Alex Jesaulenko
F: AVAILABLE AVAILABLE Rod Ashman
Ruck: John Nicholls Serge Silvagni Adrian Gallagher
Interchange: Robert Walls Mike Fitzpatrick Ken Hunter Trevor Keogh
Coach: David Parkin
Emergencies: AVAILABLE AVAILABLE AVAILABLE AVAILABLE

Of the 'new' players I would immediately nominate Kouta, Judd and Fev.
And of those who missed out from past years.... Sheldon, Dean, Swan McKay, David McKay, Harmes.
I would certainly 'promote' Hunter and Walls off the interchange bench
Not too sure about the value of Serge Silvagni in the team, considering the great ruck rovers of past.
In other 10 years (for the 50th) it might be a different story (Gibbs? Kruezer?)

What do you think?

I think Brett Ratten is a bit unlucky.

I'd have him in place of Judd.

One season doesn't qualify you for selection in our best team of the last 40 years.

Good effort. Hard to fault. But I'd have Crosswell on ball, and Syd Jackson on the bench, and Gaggs and Sheldon out of the team. Crosswell would have to go close to being our best big game player, until the Dominator came along. As far as I'm concerned, Crosswell would have to be one of the first picked.

Also, I know he didn't spend all that long at Carlton, but I'd be tempted to consider Perovic ahead of Sexton.

Very good suggestions.... Both played just under 100 games.

Crosswell was a freak. Pity he didn't spend his whole career at Carlton.

The Blues have never really had a dominant centre half back. Not like a Jackovich. But Perovic was strong and dependable.

Didn't see him play myself, but from what I've heard, Robert Walls would be a little stiff to miss out?

Walls would walk into any Carlton team ever

Hed walk into this modern day team and dominate just like he dominated the big games 40 yrs ago.

Not many footballers can dominate n atter what era they might have played.

Big Nick wouldnt have.
Kenny Hunter would have struggled today.
Even Williams may have struggled.

Walls would shit it in, no matter when he played.

For those that never saw him... think Riewoldt with shit in him... and didnt choke in the big games. (unlike riewoldt

Judd is a walk up too.
Probably in the best 5 players ever to wear the jumper.

This is a pretty fair effort. I can't see any real faults with this except Chris Judd hasn't played enough games with us yet to make this team...but that is a minor quibble as he is about the best player I have seen.

If I was to be slightly silly I would have had:-

B: Wayne Harmes Stephen Silvagni Geoff Southby
HB: Wayne Harmes Michael Sexton Bruce Doull
C: Wayne Harmes Greg Williams Craig Bradley
HF: Wayne Harmes Stephen Kernahan Alex Jesaulenko
F: Wayne Harmes Brendan Fevola Rod Ashman
Ruck: John Nicholls Wayne Harmes Adrian Gallagher
Interchange: Wayne Harmes Mike Fitzpatrick Andrew McKay Ken Sheldon

A Harmes on each line - i would have cloned him and had a Harmes on the back line, half back line, wing, half forward flank, forward pocket and as a rover...one extra on the bench just in case.

Excluding Judd on the basis that we are looking at performance at Carlton and JUdd hasn't yet got the runs on the board (and if you want to include performances at other clubs then start thinking names like Peter McKenna, Peter Bedford, Greg Wells, Billy Barrott, David Clarke Snr ...) I'd go"

Harmes Southby Silvagni Jnr

Hunter Koutoufides Doull

Bradley Williams Crane

Johnston Walls Crosswell

Kernahan Nicholls Keogh

Madden Jesaulenko Ashman

Bosustow Fitzpatrick Jackson D McKay

Emerg Fevola Gallagher Perovic
