At least the last one didn't stink quite as much. I'm still prepared to say there will be matches there next year because of the Comm games. |

I'm still prepared to say there will be matches there next year because of the Comm games. Wouldn't bet your life on it KK, they'll just use the Dome and make the Victorian clubs play interstate for 6 rounds. I'd like to see what happens to the Carlton v Collingwood and Carlton v Essendon* clashes - one of the clubs will have to miss out on a home game at the G - unless they work out an agreement where one team gets 2 home games in 2007. |

the Dome surface can't take it. It'll look worse by round 7 next year than it did when it opened.... The AFL are determined to sacrifice player conditions out of spite and vindictiveness.... (cue AGRO...) |

Isnt telstra domes surface about 40 or 50 cm of dirt and grass on top of a concrete base? Moisture retention because of the concrete base is a problem. Im not sure whwther the TD surface is all that bulletproof because of this basic design flaw. I too think that we cant rule out games at Optus in the future. The thing that annoys me isnt so much that Carlton Games are ending there, but what to me is inconsistency on this issue by the Commission. They want all clubs to maximise profitability and be able to survive financially - right. Well doesnt the fact that TD with a higher break even point than Optus mean that for matches with low attendance, the clubs involved would be financiall better off playing at optur than at TD. A high break even point at TD means that clubs are not getting as much as they otherwise would, or else, incurring more expenses than they would by playinhg at Optus - which has a lower break even point. (Break even point is 35000 at TD against 17 or 18 K at optus). Forcing worse attended matches to be played at TD means we are disadvanaging clubs more than we should be. So I think that for one reason or another Optus may not be dead yet. |

Indeed, Blueman. The only problem with your logic there is that opposition fans, preconditioned by the hatefulness of the Commission, refuse to attend matches there, and PREFER playing low-attendance matches and lose money for their clubs at TD, even the "poor" clubs like North, Bulldogs, etc. Vindictiveness is a poor characteristic to have when you're in charge of so many people's futures... |

Playing low attended matches at the Dome might not help the club but it helps the commission pay for the Dome. Playing games at Optus only helps get rid of Carltons debt not the commissions . therefore the AFL wants as many games at the Dome as possible as Carlton has now written off most of the Debt at Optus |

I wouldn't mind seeing one more "farewell game" - one where Carlton actually wins. Can we farewell the ground in a few years time -5 years time - and play a team that we can actually beat.. but will they allow us to play a little league team in 5 year time? carlton vs adelaide next week - will i be watching it....nup. I don't like Adelaide -arrogant bastards -and i don't want to feel any more pain for a while. I will be turning off the AFL for a while - get ABC2 and watch VFL/SANFL and WAFL matches instead. Where is my loyalty? - i will be back watching in a few weeks time. Just give me some time to recover. |
