I apologise for writing this on this day but I am mighty upset. I was very disappointed in Walls article in the Age today where he names the so called doyens of PP but omits Big Nick. How do Percy Jones and John Elliot get placed in front of Big Nick? In Walls three flags: Big Nick single-handedly won the 68 flag and was instrumental in the 70 & 72 flags (&coach). Not to mention about 321 games! Big Nick was the most influential player I have ever seen, at any time, at any club. And for Walls to ignore him smacks of either gross incompetence or gross negligence or maybe something more sinister. Walls has sunk to the depths in my estimation and unless he is man enough to issue some kind of apology I will cancel my Age subscription forthwith – I feel bloody strongly about this! Walls was a skinny overrated CHF who only got the ball through Big Nick’s magnanimous shielding. He is an ungrateful flower and if this is an example of his opinion he doesn’t deserve to be heralded expert! |

That's not how I read the article. Walls does say "This is how I viewed some of the names who are part of folklore at Carlton." [my emphasis] Walls is also on record on saying how it was Nicholls' positive attitude and belief, after the Semi Final replay loss, that drove Carlton to win the 72 flag. |
