About a week or so ago, around the time of the draft, I think it might have been the Herald Sun who had a 2 pager that asked whether the 2008 no.1 draft pick will be as good as the best no.1 draft picks of recent years. Interestingly, the article had big pictures of previous no.1 draft picks with the year they were drafted, and included most no.1 draft picks in the last decade ... except for Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer. Did anyone else notice this? I thought this was a bit of a smack across the face for Carlton frankly, and I hope the Blues in some way use this as a form of motivation for the three no.1 draft picks we have at the club. Did the person who penned that article honestly believe Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer were disappointing no.1 picks or did they just have it out for our club? I am more than happy with all of our 3 lads and think all 3 will be elite players. |

Perhaps - and excuse me for jumping to the defence of the MSM - it was more a case of the #1s featured being 2000 - 2004 and our three being 2005 - 2007? Perhaps the suggestion was that the evaluation period starts at the beginning of the fourth year (when a player might be 21-22 years old)... or perhaps they were looking to fill two pages of large colour photos and ran out of room? |

I dont think people outside of Carlton realise how good these players are. |

Yep I noticed it too - but at the moment the usual media suspects have not got any bad ammunition to fire at us - so all that is left is snide media articles like this. ![]() Gibbs, Murphy and Kruezer - the triumverate of Number 1 picks are going to make a lot of people eat their words (or lack of them) over the next 10 years. ![]() Just wait as the same media turkeys start calling Murphy/Gibbs/Kruezer overnight sensations in 2009. ![]() |

i noticed this too and i didn't think it was as big a deal as some of you are making it out to be. the title at the top of the page was great no.1s and until now those 4 have been the greatest no.1 picks. there is absolutely no reason why the club should show this to the players to fire them up, there is no point in it (it's not as if they're not doing their best anyway) and it only sends the wrong message. juddy's lead is much better, just don't read the papers at all. crusader wrote earlier that it was the picks from 2000-04 but it did not have goddard on the page. |

Banfield < Deledio? Only saw him at the end of his career, but surely he's got more runs on the board than Deledio. |

You have to be kidding. Sensitive much? im sure in 2012 they will have the same poster with Murph, Gibbs and Krueze but FFS they are just kids... I wouldn't call them "Great No. 1's" just yet. They had to draw the line somewhere... they did it at 2004. Get over it. |

This is just what happens when we're searching hard to create new threads. We start looking for topics that aren't necessarily there. |

I got a bit "oi! wheres our boys" then realised pretty quick that they are all very young and wouldn't be classed in the great no1's basket just yet.. |

the question should be which one of our three #1's will be the most dominant player over the course of their careers. My personal opinion is that Kruezer will turn out to be the best of the three. |

Yeah, the AFL will probably create a second division to cater for the expansion and 9th will be equivalent to a 2nd Division AFL premiership. They will then award them retrospectively and Richmond will be way out in front. |

I'm suggesting at least 1 of the ones mentioned is hardly in that category himself. |
