Welcome to the emotional Round 9 edition of Wolfister's Weekly One cent stats... although it probably wont be that emotional, cos I've posted most of the Princes Park stats in another thread... so now I'll just get on with the weekly stuff.

Carlton and Melbourne have clashed 194 times, with the Blues getting up in 107 of those clashes (55.1%) at PM+1558. In recent times however, it's fair to say that Melbourne has well and truly owned us. We've won only 1 of our last 5 (that being the last time we met) at PM-131, and only 3 of the last 10 (PM-60). Our record at Princes Park against the Dees isn't too bad, winning 52 of our 86 starts (60.5%) at PM+1130 - however we have only won 2 of our last 5 against them at Optus. Our first ever draw was against Melbourne - at Princes Park in Round 9 1898. I remember the day well, and the scoreline of 28 all was indicative of a very ordinary game. I recall watching the replay (we had a very early model TV) when I got home, and the commentary made mention of the fact that a draw was a fitting result, as no team deserved the win.

This will be our 107th Round 9 clash, winning 68 of the previous 106 (64.2%) at PM +1077 - making Round 9 our 7th most successful Round on record. In recent years our Round 9 record isn't too flash, losing our last 3 Round 9s (all at Optus), and winning only 2 of our last 5 (PM-47) and 3 of our last 10 (PM-105). We've played Melbourne 6 times in Round 9 for 3 wins (and that infamous draw) at PM+46 - the last time being in May 1999 where we got up by 33 points. This final Princes Park game will be the 62nd Round 9 game at the ground, having won 38 of the previous 61 (62.3%) at PM+741.

We've played on May 21 16 times for 10 wins (62.5%) at PM+93 - making May 21 the 92nd most successful playing day on record. Our last May 21 match was the Grand Final "rematch" in 1994, where we dominated a depleted Essendon* side at Waverley, but kicked ourselves out of it to lose by a point. We've met Melbourne 3 times on May 21, winning 2 of them at PM+23 - none of these clashes have been at Princes Park. However we have played Princes Park on May 21 7 times in the past, for 6 wins (85.7%) at PM+161- losing to South in Round 6, 1955.

Till next week remember that 98% of statistics fans will be watching the new Dr Who tomorrow night at 7:30 on Channel 2.

Wolf Out.

Hey Wolfy, can you get in your time machine thingy and find out who wins the FA Cup tomorrow night so I can clean up at the TAB.
