Here's a 'meaningful topic' for ya... ;)

BRYCE Gibbs believes Carlton can emulate Hawthorn's rapid on-field revival if the players are prepared to put in the hard yards. The versatile 19-year-old said the Blues were poised to break a finals drought that has stretched to 2001.

"We are in a similar position to where Hawthorn was two or three years ago," Gibbs said.

"We've got such a young group that hopefully we can take a few things from that. I'm not saying we want to be like Hawthorn - we have to develop our own style - but there could be some comparisons that may be exciting if we are prepared to work hard.

"It comes down to how much we want it, and if we can come together to achieve the ultimate goal, a premiership. I think with the people we have on board, that is definitely within our sights."

Future captain? Or this years VC?! :P

Such an articulate and well-grounded young fella. He's a gem.

i honestly believe this bloke will be the best player we have seen at our great club for a while, in my opinion the footy smarts he has at this young age is something very very special. Always makes the right decisions, good disposal, does the one percenters... Bryce Gibbs is a star now.... and in the next season or two he will be a superstar!

..gibbsy always looks so poised and in control, he does however lack hustle/urgency when he has the ball.. ..he's great for chase-down tackles, but when he has the ball he does seem to slow up a bit.. ..naturally that's cos he's surveying all options, and he usually has the time and space to do so.. ..he's not a line breaker..

.. ..in regards for him being a future captain, he could be.. ..personally though i see more captain material in Murph..

This was my big worry with Bryce early on, I expected more urgency and was worried when he seemed to slow the game down a bit, especially compared to the poise + hustle of J Selwood. Some of the things I saw Gibbs do this year made me relax a bit - he's got brownlow written all over him. I'd still like to see him run the ball a bit more, and work on his pace. Ryan Griffen isn't actually fast in my view - but he has the running power and he backs himself. It adds a big string to a classy bow

Having had the privilege of seeing his old man Ross in action, and a fair bit of Bryce coming up through the Bays, I can say he's a model of his old man with just a few more strings to his bow. Ross never looked rushed, always had time, yet lacked a bit of pace. BUT his lack of pace was never exposed as his awareness and feel for the game allowed him to position himself time and time again in the right spots, and make his opponent look stupid....

Love reading about Gibblet...He's a son of a gun....

I think you're wrong there, on a few occasions last year Bryce showed that he does have pace to burn and can break free and make space for himself. As his confidence continues to skyrocket, we'll see more of it.
