Sparky, we propose this as a meaningful topic!

One of the Blueseum's recent writers was an Under 19's and Reserves player for Carlton in the early 1970's. Max Dixon has contributed hundreds of hours to the site, and also added memories and pictures from his time at the Club. The write-up of how he joined, who he met, what he thought of them, is below:

Follow the links at the bottom for a full run-through of his VFL registration letters, training invite letters etc. Its a great read.

Communication (or lack thereof) seems to be a common thread.

Recently delisted players like Benjamin and Aisake O'hAilpin who we criticize for wasting their opportunity - but a kindly spoken word or perhaps a fully implemented Development Program may have made the difference.

We will never know and the nature of the business is that 6 or 7 players are delisted every year.

A terrific story and a poignant reminder of those that dont make it and some of the reasons why - well done Max.

A great look back at the old days. What a pity that it didnt work out for Max. Still got to wear the old Navy Blue jumper though.
Seems that in those days the younger players were a bit on their own.
They needed someone in the club to look after them and stand up for them.

They were probably not as world wise as the present young players, who have already been through the elite camps, etc.

What a great story for the grandkids though. Hanging out wirh Big Nick, Jezza, Doully.
