Carrazzo bentick walker simpson betts all very inexperienced and walker the most experienced with 20 games - all very young and all great capacity to improve
De luca about 30 games - waite not many more - bannister less games than deluca and younger than de luca
Thorton and wiggins whilst quite experienced in games played are still very young
Still waiting on the young rising stars of a couple of years ago fisher and sporn to come back into the side
The performances the last 2 weeks have been lamentable but there are additional reasons for this and whilst we need more talent our capacity to improve for over half of the team playing on saturday is immense.Stick with them !

I was just analysing the figures myself Frank.

We have a very inexperienced squad. Teams which have won premierships of late have had many more 100+ game players on their list than we do. Check out the Lion's current list, and take into account those who have recently retired, and it's like David & Goliath.

Port more than double us in this regard.

Let's not forget our first game at Optus last year when we towelled up the Cats by 50-odd points. Since that game they've only lost a handful of games. For a long while they were labelled as a bunch of duds. That said I do think they have more talent than us across the board. Nevermind this, Frank's post, as always, is one to keep at the forefront of our minds as the club continues to rebuild.

Good observation Frank, agree with your post, except add that perhaps Sporn has gone backwards this year despite plenty of game time. Having said that though, he is still young & with our list, he should definately be persevered with.

IIRC quite a lot of injuries for the cats that day?

We killed them but Geelong had about half their side out that day so not much can be read into it...

Time to give it up re: Sporn.

I was a massive fan, but I can now see it's misplaced enthusiasm.

True, and they too had a young team that day, I don't think they had one 100 game player take the field. Which, in some ways, just goes to illustrate frank's point further.

I agree there is talent on our list but not much A grade talent

we still need more and that is why it is so important for us to play the kids and obtain a priority pick

15 approx 100+ gamers in the MFC selected side.
All the first 22 selections are there.

7 with less than 50 (some with a lot less):
Bell, Ferguson, Moloney, Davey, Sylvia, McLean, Jamar
Two of our best <50 out: Miller and Rivers.

Nothing much in between inexperience and experienced.
Need DEmon leaders to stand up

spot on brother - this is something that more than baffles me as well.

We have the youngest list in the AFL by a country mile, yet, unlike every other young team that has ever played the game, we arent allowed to make mistakes.

It took St.Kilda several years to finally play some decent footy, took the Bulldogs even longer, all the while they had the excuse that they where a young side and still learning the game.

But i shouldnt be surprised that this same luxury isnt allowed to be used for us

Didnt take Reiwoldt, Ball, Dal Santo, Kosi, Hayes several years to play some decent footy...while I agree with Frank the list is young and you need to be patient..how long do you wait? Players like Sporn, Wiggo and Livo are in season five....

Give all of those st.kilda players the injuries that sporn on livo have had and there would be no way they would be held in the same regards as they are now. Kosi as had a few, but you would hardly say he sets the world alight either like the others.

just a question for that? with the number of players does that refer to those that are yet to play their first game?

If so throwing in the likes of Russel, Blackwell and Raso and our average age would drop considerably.

Because in all honesty i find it hard to believe that Port Adelaide are only 1.22 years on average older than us.

Interesting:

As at 24 March 2005 averages ages of all players (including rookies) was --

Geelong 22years 325 days
WCE 22 years 296 days
Carlton 22 years 282 days

I think the other figures musn't include players on the rookie's list.
