Hey all.

Ok, that's out of the way...

...I've been a member for quite a while now - missus is a Carlton 'fan' but not a 'supporter' if you catch my drift. Sometime's I wonder....

Anyways, I've got the 18 (16... whatevs) Gold Plated Reserved membership thingo right. Direct debited ('cos I suck with money)

So...

And and the cheese and kisses are going away next year - to Europe - for 3-4 months. Early May until late October.

I want to keep my membership.

I have cajoled every single breathing Carlton member I know into buying a membership so it's not going to get much use when I go.

But I want it. My missus thinks I'm nuts - "money for Europe being spent on something I won't use".

Yes, to support the club I want to keep the membership - but there's something more.

Finals.

If we make it (like I have predicted for the past 5 years!) - I'll be there for the final/s.

I want my membership just in case the game gets sold out and I don't get a ticket. Devestation isn't quite the way to put how I'd feel if this occurs.

So, in order to get top priority - I am willing to part with $350-400 for a membership that, god or whomever willing I will get to use to purchase a ticket to ONE Carlton final. And maybe more. ;)

...just to let you know what lengths I'll go to.

(p.s should i dump her? KIDDING!!)

$400 isn't gpoing to get you much in Europe anyway

Be fair.

That's a crossiant each in France.

To put it into perspective she and I want to go to 'T in the Park' weekend music festival in London.

270 pounds a ticket.

I'm thinking "ok, expensive - but you know, only live once".

Then I found out it equated to $550 AUD a ticket.

Now - I'm no tightarse.....

Your membership is extremely good value in comparison.

Have done the same thing previously Sparky, so I can empathise. My big mistake was NOT coming back for GF day 1995. I sat on the roof of my guest house in Delhi, trying to hear Tim Lane and Peter Booth on my shortwave radio over the ear splitting shrill of the generators (Delhi once again blacked out). If only I knew then what I know now...

Moral of the story...plan your holidays better man! May - October, whatever were you thinking? It's like people who get married in September...footballers who shag in March...you just got to sort your diary out!!

Buy the membership, feel good that your money is going to a worhy cause, spoil the missus on your travels, and get your arse back here when we make it to September!

Two - I haven't organised to come back at the start of September just by chance... 8)

We went OS for a few months in 2005 - and even though there was negligble chance - we booked for an October departure.

This thread on length, another thread on the main page on extensions.

Makes me think I am reading spam.

I got my membership last year and will get it next year and I can't make any game including finals because I'm in the UK. Though I do leave it for others to use if they want

Don't worry, just make sure you get to number 17  . Would rather be at 17 than 16..

I'm facing a similar situation (but not as bad), however not to your extent.

Not becoming a member is never an option, but if we do make the finals, i won't be here to watch em.

Going to europe for 8 weeks start of august to end of september.

However if we do make the GF, i'll come back.

The dilemma i face is should i become a social club member or stay as a gold member. I like how my seats are always my seats in the gold memberships, but social clubs guarantees me GF seats if we get there.

My priority when saving money is:
1. Carlton Membership
2. Food
3. Rent
4. Utilities
5. Save for holiday

2-4 may change around, but 1 will always stay 1

bought my membership today. only an interstate 5 gamer social one. which i'm pretty sure does FA in terms of getting a finals ticket. but i figure the only game you couldn't get a ticket for is an interstate final or the GF anyway.

i'm also going to be in europe july-august and am saving for a home, engagement party, wedding and honeymoon.

i've seen maybe 30 carlton games in my life which aint bad living in canberra. all 3 pre season flags (since 97) but never an actual final.

how fuggen shameful is that.

going to be tough to see a final next year as i'll be in coffs harbour competing in the world waveski titles for the first and second weekends in september!!!

i'm sure i'll make to see us knock hawthorn our of a Prelim anyway.

hope you have a ripping time in europe next year Sparky.

buy the membership.

i did the same in 2006 when i went stateside for 8 weeks smack in middle of the season, and i also work every second weekend. i thus only managed to attend 2 games for the season, yet every time i opened my wallet (not often mind you...) i could see the top of my membership card peeking out, reminding me of how proud i am and always will be to be a small part of our club. it'll be worth it, trust me.

also, take some form of carlton merch with you so you can wear it while checking the web for scores. i walked down hollywood blvd one day in my optus oval last game t-shirt and managed to meet some strange and wonderful people because of it.

and if that doesnt work, dump her!!! (just kidding!!!)

My sister lived in Germany for 6 years and continued her membership the whole time. Made it all worthwhile when she was guaranteed a seat when she flew home for the 2002 and 2003 GF's.

Although I don't think it will be an issue for you this year, buy the membership for peace of mind Sparky.

I was living OS for 3 years and still had my social premium gold (my mates did enjoy the seats though)

Thanks for the feedback everybody, though to be honest in my heart it is a rhetorical question. :)

I've always prided my self into bugging non-members into signing up, so how could I turn around and not be a member in what is going to be another breaking record year!

After all, the 3 metre banner "Up yours Demitrispew - we made it!" that I have been working on for 5 years would be worthless if I wasn't to attend our next finals appearance.

And bender - I'll definitely take my Carlton jumper with me O/S - I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier!

Now I just have to think about explaining the membership it to the missus. She just doesn't "get it" about being a Carlton supporter.

And to think I was stoked when she told me the first time I met her that she followed Carlton... I think it was the second thing I asked her after her name.

We're many of a kind around the world. I have been doing that for years as well. My address is listed in Tassie so my mates can use my ticket if they need a spare one.
I also flew back from Mexico for a week last year to see Rds 1and 2. Both losses.
For many of us, membership has really been the buying of a hat from the club for some hudreds of dollars!
At least this coming season I should be able to get to see a couple more games than has been the norm.
I'm hanging out to see them win, though. Last time I saw them win was at PP against the Bulldogs!
