I've got a photocopy of a Collingwood dinner dance programme from about 1940 ![]() The most amazing one is the Geelong one. It has about 5 very ordinary verses and has a couple of lines similar to "and if you care to look for us, you'll find us in the bar. We are all so merry and gay"... |

It will not solve the mystery, but will be another step in finding out the truth (if there is one truth). |

Also noticed on that sign "We're the team that never lets THEM down" instead of "never lets YOU down" and also the truncated "And THEY'LL know that they've been playing" instead of " And THEY WILL know that that they've been playing" FWIW it is definitely send US - always has been - always will be. If you can't get your head around the fact that our song doesn't always rhyme and you like to sing the song with 'send up' then you may as well sing 'We're the only team from Carlton town' Anyway "They like to send US, we'll keep our end up" - makes sense! particularly when the reference is to the fact that WE are the navy blues and the song is sung grammatically from the 1st person plural perspective. "They like to send UP, we'll keep our end up"- what does that mean??? anyway according to the Club website it is US http://www.afl.com.au/BlueZone/ClubSong/tabid/7980/Default.aspx No controversy - the UP people are just wrong Probably a good idea to edit the Blueseum page |

I've got an absolute truckload of Carlton junk that I have collected over the years. Due to moving houses and interstate it is currently in boxes in the shed out the back, in the spare room, and some still with family in the A.C.T. Once I get it sorted out I'll start scanning it all in (along with the banner photo's I have promised)... |

I think it's pertinent and timely to reproduce this "Sun" front page classic (IMO) of Barass as Coach, supervising Big John Nicholls doing the mandatory 20 pushups for a training error.....common in those days. It includes the announcement that Barass was "retiring from football"....and my thoughts on those days too. From "Warby's Scrapbook"....Page 5. "As a poster on CSC, I often talked about the shock of seeing the discipline inflicted on Carlton by Barassi at training. No one was safe....Nicholls, Crosswell and Jezza ....it didn't matter who you were... you did what you were told or asked to do ....or suffer the consequences. I never missed a training night or session, and quite often I'd be 10 minutes late arriving; and I'd see Gary Crane doing laps or whatever; and I'd ask the "Unofficial Match Committee" (which we were)...."What did Gazza do wrong?" ....."He kicked with his normal foot/side"...."Oh" I'd say; knowing how Barass wanted players to be as proficient on their "Wrong side" as their "Right". Whatever happened out there....afterwards; he'd be in the rooms fiercely competing at table tennis with Jezza or whoever with people like Peter Landy barracking.... they were great days....exciting days" ![]() |

Not sure if you all saw the whole gallery, but check out the suit on Ragsy Goold... From the Blueseum Looking at Ragsy's details in the Blueseum.....I can find no reference to his full name. I recall that on arrival at Carlton from Healesville....his full name was stated as John Crosbie-Goold. |

Thanks for that Warby - do you have anything like that in your records? We've checked with the Guru who confirms the name as John William Crosbie Goold, but we aren't sure whether its a hyphon or amiddle name of sorts. His son also just played under Goold - Ed played 20 reserve games in 1997 and 1998 before trying his luck with Essendon*. John goes under the name of Crosbie Goold in some newspaper articals about fox hunting etc down at Ellerslie in the Western District of Victoria near Warrnambool in 1998 and 2005 and it was listed as Crosbie Goold and not as Crosbie-Goold. From the Blueseum |

From the Blueseum Perhaps it wasn't hyphenated; but he most certainly bore the name.....John Crosbie Goold on arrival....I just thought you'd be interested. |
