The message is clear.

I bet we all agree that we should not tolerate players who do not give 100% commitment to professionalism to get the best out of themselves whilst playing in the famous jumper.

The club has pulled together very well over the last 18 months to put us back on the map, with vision, purpose and our old swagger. There is no room for passengers.

I am very happy about this. The club needs discipline and focus on our objective: premierships.

I understand the reason for a penalty for the whole group if one fails, but don't entirely agree with it. I would prefer a Steve Johnson type of penalty: caste out till they reach milestones the leadership group expects.

Furthermore, if one in the leadership group fails, then I think the penalties handed should be harsher.

We need to build on our strength of character and our toughness, and that comes from discipline and professionalism.

Does anyone know who the groups of three are?

The draft draw I've seen has us playing Richmond, Geelong, Essendon*, and Sydney (in Sydney) over the first four rounds. If that turns out to be correct, then we badly need to hit the ground running. I am pleased that the message is being sent loud and clear to a few of our usual suspects.

I haven't Salsiccia, but as one wag on BigFooty wrote - imagine being teamed up with Stevo and Lance!

Put Fev in there. I'm sure he'd let them know he'd murder them if he had to train with the Ants...

I bet Stevens was out gardening up a storm after reading that in the paper

Letting down two of your mates and facing the prospect of dragging them down with you would be more of a kick in the pants than simply facing relegation alone.

What a good idea. Obviously someone in the football department has been studying human behaviour.

I wonder if they'll create the groups to maximise the effect? For example, anyone thrown in with Judd would be under enormous pressure to come back in tip-top shape: imagine being the guy responsible for Juddy training with the bullants.

Judd & Stevo together?

Brilliant idea.

Emphasises the team factor involved even in individual performances, and vice-versa. Can only help bonding among the playing group, which should help on-field in 09.

How about Stevens in the same group as Juddy - NO room for error

Stevo with his seniority should be given the challenge of stepping up and being in charge of some kids...

Totally agree - he is a senior player and should be showing leadership.

I would have thought there would have been a few players who they wanted to bulk up a bit and with so many going down with OP a few weeks off the track wouldn't do them any harm . Got a heavy preseason in front of you - want something up your sleeve

I reckon if I had to train at the Bullants i'd rather do it with a couple of my mates :-D

You would think with this exercise that the leadership group behind Judd for 2009 will be formed.

Last year we lost our first 3 games, all of which we could have won. Essendo, Richmond, and St Kilda with a 5 goal quarter time lead. Who knows, we may have made finals if we had been fit. This is exactly what we needed, and well done Ratts on being proactive and making things happen.

Would't mind seeing Eddie in the same group as Judd.

Big year for Eddie, really needs to step up. If he can become more consistent (and if rumour is to be true, he probably hasn't got himself into his best possible condition), would make a massive difference.

Think back to the first game against Essendon*...he was brilliant that night. 25ish possessions, lead up marking, making the play...that's what we need from him week-in-week-out.
