Bryce Gibbs was suppossed to be at Malvern Central Shopping Centre today at 11:30 for a public appearance.............

He was a no show & by 12 noon someone came out to say they didn't know where he was.

I called the club & they said that as he is on leave it's a matter for his management group (fair enough). I called them & the receptionist knew about it but couldn't give me any feedback as the rest of them are out at GF functions. She said they's call back later today...........

Upshot of it is that there was a lot of little Carlton supporters who were upset & parents who were pissed off. As we rebuild the brand it is incumbent on the players not to let down the kids with no-shows like this.

I hope I get a reasonable explanation & that Bryce wasn't struggling after a big night out post-Footy Show performance.

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a credible explanation for his absense.

In my view, Bryce comes across as a genuinely decent, responsible and professional person.

lol yeah pretty bad form. I reckon he had a pretty big night after his performance on the footy show and wasnt quite "fit" to greet mobs of loud fans. But still not an excuse, I'd be pretty pissed of if I bought my kids to see him and he want there.

UPDATE:
I just spoke to his management group. Let's just say that if rudeness is in vogue then the woman I spoke to would have to be the trendiest person I've spoken to in a while. My favourite line from her was "I'm reeeaaally busy right now & I don't have time for this".

She did say that he had a family issue that came up & if true I hope it's nothing too serious but you never know if thats a bulltish line or not. Even if true, a phone call to cancel would've been nice & maybe they'd have been able to find a replacement player.

Not flowering good enough !!!!!!!!!!!!

For what ever reason why he didnt turn up, his actions would have changed the opinions of a couple of hundred people and kids.

Here in Kyabram, we run a celebrity 20 X 20 cricket match in January.

In 2007 we had Brett Deledio, Kayne Pettifer and Richo play for our side. The kids loved it !!! We had a huge crowd for such a small town.

In 2008 we invited Deledio, Pettifer, Richo back again and also asked Gary Lyon & Adam Uze if they would like to play. Richo put in his apology and said he couldnt make it and Lyon & Uze accepted our invitation.

Deledio & Pettifer were a no show. Did not even contact us after the event with an apology. There were alot of disapointed kids and the club was esp pissed off. The local paper run adds about the event and the crowd was bigger than the year before.

We are now in the process of organizing our 2009 20x20 match and the club is reluctant to invite Brett & Kayne again.

I might be a bit hard on Gibbs, but I believe there is no excuse for him not turning up. And if it was a Family issue and then a quick phone call with an apology would have been the right thing to do.

pathetic form, not hard to turn up to a committment, only acceptable excuse is if his managment were the ones that double booked him or didn't check with him etc, I'd suggest it was most likely their fault

Isn't he meant to be on holidays? Give the kid a break, he has 44 weeks to deal with kids and public appearances.

Yeah we all want to support our players but Gibbs' is clearly in the wrong on this one. This isn't the first time people have commented negatively on our players conduct at club committments and this is bottom of the barrell stuff. If its true that he had a family issue to attend to then his management should've called the shopping centre management and let them know that he wasn't attending.

It's unprofessional and is a poor way of building our clubs brand. And I don't agree that the club should get away with shrugging it off as a issue for Bryce's management. This is about the image of the club, and about protecting its supporters. It's a F&^%ing weak reponse from the club and as a Carlton member I expect better. You wouldn't see this kind of crap accepted by clubs like Hawthorn or Collingwood.

If this is the reason he missed it, he's excused:

Very true, but I think the problem is that he committed to do it, then didn't show...

That's poor form.

Would imagine though there is a good reason... if that's the case I'm sure Bryce or someone from the club will make the effort to put it right
