With the stories I have been hearing about Cats and Hawks supporters missing out on GF tickets and the level of their memberships in relation to their respective ballots, I need to know what membership will secure me GUARANTEED GF ticket in 2009 and beyond.

I had a Premium Gold membership in 08, but I'm pretty sure that won't get me a GUARANTEED GF ticket but rather access to the ballot.

According to this years membership info a social club membership guarantees you to a gf ticket. Of course if social memberships are not capped in the future then there is no guarantee, but probably your best chance. there is little difference between prices in gold and social memberships.

become an AFL member or MCC member before it's too late.

Social club would be good if there was an actual social club. Wasn't there a platinum membership that secured you a GF ticket?

Dare to dream coryne.

Why do you think so many Hawks supporters have missed out? Didn't think they were a chance this year.

For us continually ripped off Brisbane interstate members, it would be better to just purchase the tickets and forget purchasing anything but a Blue membership for $65 - I have seen them for round $1900 - so without looking, if memberships which get you a ticket are $300 or so, then ~6 years of paying for those memberships = 1 grand final ticket. Given a post somewhere else about years between premierships, that was ~7 so that works out well

Do the MCG still open the gates early in the last quarter of games, esp the Grand Final?

That is one alternative. Go watch the game at a pub in Richmond or East melbourne, then if the Blues are winning or in the hunt go to the gates at 3/4 time and get in for the last quarter.

We win and you get the feel the buzz and celebrate actually being there.

When we make our next GF, I'll have a guaranteed seat.

That's because I'll be quite prepared to fork out whatever it takes to buy one. $1500 for a crappy corporate lunch, with a Weird-Al Yankovich impersonator as entertainment? Fine. Here's my money. Now, where's my seat?

You can't put a price on No.17. I'll happily take out a personal loan from some dodgy joint if I need to.

Go the Motor Finance Wizard and drive yourself to the game John. Don't hold back for #17.

As always, very clear and rational thinking JohnM. :)

Care to give me a cheap loan John? Promise I'll pay it back! :P

Here's how to do it Chucky:

Go into Harvey Norman and buy an $1800 double-door fridge on their No Interest for 50 months plan.

Sell the fridge immediately on ebay for, say $1500. Brand-spanking new, still plastic-wrapped.

Buy your GF ticket with the $1500.

Pay back the $1800 over 50 months interest-free (which is only $36 a month). Waaaay cheaper than putting it on your credit card or taking out a 20% personal loan for $1500.

And anyone can afford $36 a month, surely.

Sadly.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a top end membership for all that trouble?

except you have to buy it every single year.

and even then, I don't trust the system to not screw me over.

but if you buy the exorbitant corporate package from the club, carlton will get the money anyway.

same vein as I was suggesting. This really does indicate the frustrations that other members also seem to have with the membership system, and for me, I am really disappointed with our guernsey manufacturers and the club telling people to purchase the next size up to accommodate the 'small makes this year'. Ridiculous, especially if you need that 3X size in the first place and there is no other option available except to purchase fakes which do not benefit the club in any way.

I love Carlton, but the things which are supposed to make me feel like being part of a club, isolate rather than support.
